Reflection

In this week's reflection I am sharing my words of welcome to our wonderful Mother's that were able to attend the celebration last week.

Good evening everyone,

The following words come from my own position and experiences alongside a loving wife and mother of my three daughters, and from the blessed childhood I received as a result from a nurturing and selfless mother.

It’s such a joy to welcome you all to this special Mother’s Day celebration. Tonight, we gather to honour and celebrate the incredible women who shape the hearts and lives of our children—our mums, grandmothers, and special mother figures. Thank you for being here, and thank you for being you.

Motherhood is one of the most powerful expressions of love that exists. A mother’s love is patient, selfless, and enduring—a love that mirrors the unconditional love of God. You are the quiet strength, the gentle guide, the fierce protector, and the ever-present support in your child’s life. Pope Francis once said:

“Mothers are the strongest antidote to the spread of self-centered individualism… They are the ones who testify to the beauty of life.” How true that is. Your love teaches your children about compassion, sacrifice, and connection.

But we also recognise that being a mother is not easy. There are the sleepless nights, the worries, the endless decisions, and the moments of doubt. There are days when you give your all and still wonder if it’s enough. And yet, you rise—again and again—offering your children your time, your presence, your heart. Please know that your efforts, both seen and unseen, are sacred, and they matter deeply.

In our Catholic tradition, we look to Mary, the mother of Jesus, as a model of courage, faith, and unconditional love. She reminds us that motherhood is not just a role but a vocation—one that comes with great beauty, deep challenges, and incredible purpose. As you walk this journey, may you always feel supported, loved, and connected to God’s grace.

Tonight, we celebrate you not only as caregivers and nurturers but as women of strength, faith, and resilience. Thank you for all that you do. Thank you for the love you pour into your families, and the values you pass on to your children. You are the heart of our homes and our school community.

May God bless you abundantly, not just on this day, but always.

Happy Mother’s Day.
