From the Principal's Desk

On the church calendar, May is the month during which we focus on Mary, Jesus’ mother. The Hail Mary comes from the words of Mary’s cousin, Elizabeth, who visited Mary when they were both about to become mothers.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
Our Role in Modelling the Positive
Positive role models have a powerful and lasting impact on children’s development, influencing their behaviour, values, aspirations, and emotional well-being:
1. Shape Values and Morals
Children tend to imitate the behaviours they see. Positive role models who demonstrate honesty, kindness, empathy, and responsibility help instill these values in children.
2. Boost Self-Esteem and Confidence
When children see someone they admire who has overcome obstacles or succeeded through effort and integrity, they’re more likely to believe in their own potential. This builds resilience and self-worth.
3. Promote Healthy Choices
Role models who maintain healthy habits — such as regular exercise, good nutrition, and avoiding harmful behaviours — influence children to adopt similar lifestyles.
4. Encourage Goal Setting and Ambition
Positive role models show children what is possible, especially when the role model shares a similar background.
5. Support Emotional Regulation
When children observe adults or peers handling conflict, failure, or stress in constructive ways, they learn how to manage their own emotions more effectively.
6. Enhance Academic and Social Skills
Teachers, mentors, and older students who model effective communication, curiosity, and collaboration can inspire children to improve their academic performance and social interactions.
At Resurrection School all adults and children are encouraged to be positive role models for one another at all times. This term we are 'Stepping Up' to being positive role models of: respect, responsibility, resilience, fairness, kindness, friendliness and safety.
All the best,
Jane Dunstone
