What a wonderful start to the term we have had in 5/6, we loved hearing about what everyone got up to on the holidays and all the fun they had with their families!
Literacy
In Literacy, this term, we have started reading a new mentor text ‘How Was That Built?’ where we have been learning all about different types of structures in the world and how they were built. We have been completing a lot of tasks about this book, focussing on our vocabulary and sentence level writing.
We are starting to learn how to take notes so we can write our own explanatory text in the coming weeks.
Numeracy
We completed Big Idea 3 last week, and now we are starting Big Idea 4 ‘Comparison: Numbers, expressions, and measures can be compared by their relative values’ the 5/6s have been working extremely hard to complete their coloured tasks as well as working together to help their peers. It has been amazing to see their independence grow throughout Numeracy.
Integrated Studies
This term our Integrated Studies topic is 'Australia and our Asian neighbours' we have been learning about different aspects of Australia, including the people who live here, extreme weather and disasters, food production, the landscapes and landforms around the country. We will have the opportunity to analuse different data types, including the Australian Census.
We will also learn about life in Asian countries and will select a country to research.
At the end of the Term, we will hold a Travel Expo, where we will present an Asian country and visitors can vote for the country they would most like to visit.
We can’t wait to continue to learn more about these countries.
