Interschool sports: Friday mornings students are enjoying their interschool sports: soccer, AFL, netball and hot shots/tennis. We are enjoying the opportunity to play against teams at other schools. The sports personship has been amazing to see! Go, Mackellar, go!
Reading & writing: We are enjoying diving into reading and writing factual narratives as a fun way to learn more about Australia’s past. We’ve learnt about the events behind ANZAC Day, the arrival of the First Fleet and the signing of Batman’s treaty in Melbourne and the effect it had on local Wurundjeri people.
Maths: We’ve been enjoying exploring decimal numbers and applying our knowledge when looking at real life statistics like the world’s population. We’ve been learning more about how to interpret different kinds of data and read graphs. We’re now excited to move into learning about fractions & angles.
Inquiry: There is a buzz in Year 5 around our inquiry into Australian History! Students are posing questions and starting to think like historians as they consider different perspectives of significant events. Particularly, we are paying attention to the perspectives of First Nations peoples. We’re excited about our upcoming excursion to Sovereign Hill on Tuesday 10th June.
