WORK EXPERIENCE

Work experience is the short-term placement of students with employers to provide insights into the industry and the workplace in which they are located. Students are encouraged to organise their work experience placement early so that they have the greatest chance of securing their place of choice.

It provides students with the valuable opportunity to:

  • Develop employability skills.
  • Explore possible career options.
  • Understand employer expectations.
  • Increase their self-understanding, maturity, independence, and self-confidence

Olivia Ede – Essential Energy

‘My placement was held and completed at Essential Energy, I chose this workplace because it’s an interesting field of work and they’re always looking for girls in the industry.

I was hoping to see and experience what they offer and see all the different types of jobs that are involved in the job. My work experience was extremely good and was fun however it was a pain that I couldn’t help much but watching and learning was just as fun. I would recommend doing work experience there as everyone is so kind, you learn a lot and much more.’

Rebecca Hayes – Mildura Veterinary Hospital

‘I did my placement at the Mildura Veterinary Hospital. I chose this workplace because of my love of animals and wanting to explore the animal care industry. This gave me an insight on what working at a Vet will look like if I choose it as a career in the future.

During my placement, my goal was to learn about how the industry worked and what jobs would be required within the business, and how I can get into the industry.  Work experience met my expectations, also exceeding said expectations. I enjoyed watching surgeries performed, and even the cleaning after the surgeries, with the only thing I didn’t enjoy was watching dental.

I would recommend other students to participate in work experience because you get a chance to see what happens in the workplace without needing to worry about long term commitment.’

Charlize Paterson – Simon Callahan Physiotherapy

‘I did my placement at Callahan Physiotherapy. I choose this place as I believed that I would benefit and learn a lot from this practice. I was hoping to see what physiotherapy is like and the daily tasks that are completed and how they manage their time. It did meet my expectations and there were no parts that I didn’t enjoy. I would recommend work experience for others as it is an insightful experience, and you can fully understand what the job requires and what will happen daily.’
