Pope Leo XIV

It is exciting times for our Catholic faith as the new Pope is announced - Pope Leo XIV.

Last Friday 8 May, Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost was named the 267th Pope, taking the name Pope Leo XIV.

Robert Prevost was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 14th 1955. He attended a Catholic School - St Mary of the Assumption (so close to our name here at OLA!). In the class photo below, you can spot a young Pope Leo standing, fourth from left.

Robert was ordained as a priest in 1982 and was bishop of Chiclayo in Peru between 2015 and 2023. Pope Francis announced Bishop Robert a Cardinal at St Peter's Square in 2023.
