We farewelled Libby Hamilton on Friday 2nd May. For the remainder of this term Mr Penman will be the classroom teacher each Monday and Tuesday in odd weeks and Mondays in even weeks. Jake is very excited to be a permanent part of the classroom this term. Jake is very aware of the routines and expectations of the classroom, with learning continuing as normal. Welcome Jake!
Classroom Timetable: Our classroom timetable has changed slightly. We will now work on an ODD and EVEN week cycle.
Homework Expectation: Students are doing an excellent job of making sure that their spelling words are neatly written into their homework books each evening, practising for our spelling and dictation tests on Fridays. Well done.

Mother's Day Pampering
We had a fantastic Day for our Mother's Day Pampering. The Year 6 space was very popular with scrapbooking and beading.
Good Start Visit
We had a great visit, we spent time in the sandpit, on the swings and meet some lovely four year old kinder kids. In the next few weeks we will be also visiting again and the Euroa Kinder.
Religion
Our Liturgy based on the Stations of the Cross", was beautiful and Year 6 students led in a very respectful and reverent way.
Literacy
We are halfway through our class novel: 'Us Mob Walawurru' by David Spillman and Lisa Wilyuka. This novel is set in Central Australia in the 1960's. It follows the life of Ruby, a young Luritja girl. Living on a cattle station Ruby is faced with many situations and dilemmas resulting from cultural differences, education, language, family obligations, relationship to country and environment.
By the 1960's many Aboriginal people in Central Australia had moved to cattle stations where they could work for rations and shelter.
Within this novel we are also focusing heavily on sentence types (complex, compound and simple) and how these are used within writing. We have looked at the differences between clause and phrases and the effect these have on our writing.
With the use of this novel as a mentor text, we have been writing our own factual recounts about the Aboriginal Referendum.
We are becoming excellent hand writers. We have handwriting exercises at least three times a week and the improvement has been great!
Maths: In maths we have been focusing on fractions! Fractions on numbers lines, ordering and comparing. Making equivalent fractions and simplifying using the highest common denominator. Students are also revising their times tables and we will continue to revisit these each Friday. In small groups we have also been revisiting and checking understanding of the four operations.
Inquiry: We have been following Mr McKernan's journey around Europe, with our Inquiry unit, 'Where in the world is Mr McKernan?' As we look at how global issues affect us. Students have been working on a factual piece about a European country.
Euroa Secondary Discovery Day.
Together with year 4 and 5 we had the opportunity to attend the Discovery Day at ESC, we had an experience of what day is like at high school. We had science and maths lessons and enjoyed a delicious BBQ lunch.
Festival of Fungi.
The Festival of Fungi is run by Strathbogie Ranges Conservation and were lucky to have the Little Projector Company run a workshop with us around how important fungi is in a healthy ecosystem. Some of our artworks was projected onto the exterior of the North Eastern Hotel on Friday 23 May.
Uniform:
A reminder that students need to be wearing their school uniform each day to school. Students are also not to be wearing make up, nail polish and only studs or sleeper earrings. Thank you for your support with this.
Thank you,
Lou, Jake, Kiera and Nic.
