Minasan Konnichiwa! (Hello everyone.)
I took 3 weeks of Long Service Leave at the beginning of Term 2 and travelled to Japan. I refreshed my knowledge of Japanese culture while I was in both big cities and the countryside. Students and I have enjoyed looking at some of my photos together and discussed Japanese nature, wildlife, seasonal food and traditional culture.
During my absence, students learnt about “Children’s Day” celebrated on May 5 in Japan.
Year 3-6 students made posters about Children’s Day, and junior students read a story related to this celebration and completed some activities.
Year 3-6
We have started our new topic “Japanese Primary School”. Students are learning some school related vocabulary and sentences, and we are looking at some differences and similarities between Australian and Japanese primary schools. Please ask your child what they learnt about Japanese primary schools.
Year 1&2
Students are learning some weather words such as hot, cold, sunny, cloudy and rainy. Our goal is to be able to describe today’s weather in Japanese and use these words in everyday conversation. We continue to sing songs in Japanese, practice reading Hiragana (Japanese alphabet) , learning/practicing words and phrases using an online program ELLA (Early Learning Language Australia) and Origami!
Foundation
Foundation students continue to practice greetings, numbers, likes and dislikes, animals, body parts and more. We will focus on some colours in Japanese for the next few weeks. Please ask your child/ren how to say their favourite colours in Japanese!
Here are some photos.
