Principal's News

Yesterday was National Sorry Day! National Sorry Day is a special day in Australia, held every year on May 26. It’s a time when we remember and say sorry for the sad things that happened to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, especially the Stolen Generations—children who were taken away from their families many years ago.
On this day, we show we care, and we learn about the past so we can make sure it never happens again. It's also a day to think about being kind, respectful, and working together for a better future for everyone in Australia. We celebrated with a Liturgy prepared by Mrs Timperley and our Fire Carriers.
We apologise for having to cancel some of our Assemblies over the past weeks due to extra curricula activities for our older students and Mother's Day celebrations. Our next Assembly is in Week 7 at 2:45pm in the Mercy Centre. Our Foundation students will be presenting their learning. If we ever have to cancel, we will let you know through PAM.
From this week if your child should receive a detention, you will be notified via an email through our school platform SIMON. You do not have to return this form signed, only your child's signed Reflection Form. As mentioned, before receiving a detention children will always receive a warning unless their choices endanger themselves or others.
Eight students from St John's will be representing our school at regional Cross Country on Friday 13th June at the Benalla Showgrounds. A very big congratulations to:-
Darcy Buchanan, Alex Burton, Archie Buchanan, Chloe Harvey-Bredden, Cooper Harper, Wyatt Simmons, Logan Schwartzkopff and Paige Enright.
All the children who ran at the Division Cross Country finals showed persistence, resilience and stamina, and tried their very best, on what was a foggy and chilly day in Yea! They were enthusiastic supporters of each other which was very pleasing to see. This was a great opportunity for the children, and they were fine ambassadors for our school. We wish them all the very best for the Regional finals.
Please help your child make sure they are wearing correct school uniform. This includes earrings, makeup, socks and shoes. By this time children should have removed the nail polish applied at the Mother's Day celebration afternoon.
Now that the weather has changed and there are lots of coughs, sniffles and colds going around, a reminder to please keep children home if they are unwell. We will work to do our best to keep children and teachers' germ free and at school, but we need your help. If children are unwell, we will call you to come and pick them up. Thank you for your understanding.
I hope you enjoy each grade and specialist's pages in our Classroom Communication this week, as they share with you a snapshot of what has been happening in their classrooms over the past weeks. We are thrilled with what is happening in classrooms with the children's learning with English and Maths under the Magnify banner. Teachers have also started their journey with coaching and feedback and classroom 'drop ins'. There is so much happening, the children and teachers' days are very busy but very rewarding.
Until next fortnight
