Principal's Message

Dear Parents, Staff, and Students

Term 2 is well underway, and already the calendar is filled with events and activities that highlight the energy, talent, and diversity of our students and staff. It has been a pleasure to witness so many examples of our school values—empowerment, inclusivity, creativity and achievement—in action over the past fortnight.

On Monday 28 April, we hosted our Aerobics and Dance Showcase, where over 100 students took to the stage to rehearse their routines ahead of the upcoming Regional competition held over the first weekend in May. This event gave our students the chance to perform in front of a live audience and refine their routines in preparation for competition. I had the pleasure of attending the Regional event on the Sunday with Assistant Principal Hayley Dureau, and we were both so impressed by the confidence, dedication and enthusiasm on display.

A special thank you goes to Tess Molina, our Head of Aerobics & Dance, who oversees a large team of dedicated coaches—all of whom are former MGSC students—as well as our own student coaches. Together, they not only pass on their technical skills but also model the importance of teamwork, mutual support, and respect. Their approach to competition reflects the very best of our school culture: MGSC competitors are known not just for their talent, but for being gracious, collaborative and encouraging—acknowledging the efforts of other teams and celebrating shared success. They have built a strong reputation for being "good sports," which is something we are incredibly proud of.

We also held the first meeting of our newly formed School Council on Wednesday 30 April. I warmly welcome our four new members: Bala Nararaja and Tess McGeoch (Parent Members), Lucille Burden (Department of Education Member), and Gabrielle Taylor (Student Member). In addition, Mark Murray and Rosa Ferrari will serve as Community Members. We’re also fortunate to continue working alongside Gemma Ong, who is in her second year as a Student Member. I’m pleased to announce the appointment of Mark Murray as School Council President, Fiona Keele as Vice-President, and Rosa Ferrari as Treasurer. The contributions of all members—parents, staff, students, and community representatives—are vital to ensuring that the decisions we make reflect a wide range of perspectives and serve the best interests of our school community.

We continue to provide meaningful learning beyond the classroom, with a number of Outdoor Education camps and events running recently. These experiences build much more than physical skills; they foster resilience, perseverance, and a growing sense of independence. It’s always a highlight of the year to see students return from these camps with a renewed sense of confidence and connection.

This week, MGSC again marked IDAHOBIT - the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersex Discrimination and Transphobia. This day is an opportunity for us to reflect on the importance of creating a safe, inclusive and respectful environment for every student, regardless of their gender identity or sexual orientation. As an inclusive school, it is essential that we send a strong and clear message that discrimination, bullying or harassment of any kind will not be tolerated. We stand with our LGBTQIA+ students and staff, and with the wider community, in affirming the right of every individual to be proud of who they are.

Thank you for your continued support of our programs and values. MGSC is a vibrant place to learn, lead and grow—because of the people who make up our community.

Warm regards

Linda Brown
