Middle School News
It was fabulous to see so many Year 9 and 10 students getting involved in the various events at the Athletics Carnival which was held last week. Students embraced the day, dressing up in their house colours, spending time with friends and participating in athletics events as well as novelty activities. Year 9 and 10 students are encouraged to continue to get involved in the various college activities that are on offer, including the House Music which is in a couple of weeks time.
Lateness to School
It is important that students arrive promptly to class to ensure they are engaged in their learning. A reminder that if students are late to school, unexplained on Compass, they will receive a before school community service. Explanations need to be on Compass by 10am.
Work Experience
Year 10 students are preparing for work experience commencing on the 26th May. The students have organised a variety of workplaces, some examples being primary schools, laboratories, medical facilities, dance studios, vets, health services and many more. A reminder to ensure a work placement has been finalised and safe@work modules have been completed and submitted. Work Experience is a wonderful opportunity for the students to explore their future pathways especially with our subject selection process commencing later this term.
Year 9
This week Year 9s explored Wilsons Promontory on the Outdoor Education Camp. By all reports a lot of fun is being had whilst the students are experiencing a range of outdoor activities.
All Year 9s will have their Morrisby Interview in the week commencing on the 2nd June. This is a wonderful opportunity for the students to start to think about their pathway options.
Save the Date – Information Evening
Looking ahead, we invite all Year 9 and 10 families to our Subject Selection Information Evening on Tuesday 24 June.
- Year 10 2026 (current Year 9) – 6pm
- Year 11 2026 (current Year 10) – 7:15pm
This important event, held in the MGSC gym, will provide guidance for students and families as they begin to consider their subject choices for the 2026 school year and beyond.
We look forward to seeing you there and continuing to work together to support your child’s journey.
Upcoming Exams – Supporting Our Students
With Semester 1 exams approaching, many students are beginning to turn their focus to revision and preparation. These assessments provide valuable opportunities for students to practise exam techniques, consolidate their understanding, and build confidence in managing timed tasks.
To support your child through this period, we encourage them to:
- Start early and plan ahead: Encourage small, regular revision sessions rather than last-minute cramming.
- Use active study techniques: Mind maps, flashcards, and teaching someone else can make study more effective.
- Practice with rev: This helps build familiarity with question styles and exam timing.
- Create a realistic study timetable: Include time for breaks, physical activity, and relaxation.
- Keep organised: Encourage tidy notes and a clutter-free study space.
- Look after themselves: Good sleep, healthy food, and regular movement support focus and wellbeing.
