The Cecil Voice

- a conversation with

Mr Eddie Woo

Towards the end of 2023, The Cecil Voice team had the opportunity to venture into the Parramatta Office to interview the NSW Department of Education's Mathematics Growth  Leader, Mr Eddie Woo.

This was the first interview the team participated in off-site and you can hear from the voices of Tiana and Tristan that this conversation was an intellectually expansive experience. We hope that their experience will resonate well with our listeners whether you choose to listen to this lengthy episode in one go or in segments.

We thank Mr Woo for accepting our invitation to be a part of our podcast and for being generous with his time and expertise. His voice do not only add great value to our podcast but to the lives of our listeners as well who may have wondered about the questions that were asked during this episode, especially those related to mathematics, numeracy, wellbeing, high performance, and Aboriginal Education.

Here's a reflection piece from Rianna Georgis, who was a part of the production team for this particular episode:

Listening to Mr. Woo's insights improved my understanding of the relationship between mathematics and numeracy by explaining how they are related yet very different. Mathematics is the study of patterns, numbers, and relationships. A lot of things fit under that heading. After listening to Mr Woo, I now realise that numeracy is the way we use mathematics to solve every day problems. With this in mind, a tool that now helps me in understanding concepts we are learning in Maths class is thinking about how I can apply the mathematic skills and concepts in real-world scenarios?

In our next episode, you will hear from Mr Marco Quintao Sr and his son, Marco Quintao Jr, both of whom have been a part of the Cecil Family for over a decade as a parent, student, and now as the members of the award-winning Heroes With Ability organisation.
