An abundant experience

As part of learning about ecosystem dynamics, Year 11 students completed fieldwork at Shelly Beach, Cronulla. Students were guided by teachers from the Royal National Park Environmental Education Centre to use a variety of sampling techniques to measure the distribution and abundance of plants and animals. The highlight of Mr Chandler’s day was his lunch (oysters kilpatrick).

Here's what some of our students had to say about their experiences during the excursion:

This Biology excursion was an amazing experience. This is my favourite science excursion and I'm sure all the useful information from the excursion will help with my assessment. I appreciate the hard working teachers from Cecil Hills High School and the Environmental Education Centre who helped me learn. I would definitely recommend Biology to all students entering Year 11.

The excursion was an amazing experience full of not only entertainment but also interesting science. As a senior student, it was an extraordinary  journey which was filled with joy and great time with teachers and friends, getting to know more about each other and the ecosystem around us. As Australia has the best beaches and protected marine life, it was phenomenal to learn about this system and how they work and also learn about the climate in our lovely country Australia. Big thanks to Ms Naim, Mr Chandler, Mrs Hoang and Mr Clough for this wonderful experience and I encourage everyone to experience this!

The excursion was really fun and prepared us for our assessment task. While at Shelly Beach we learnt about different species while having fun with classmates. Mrs Hoang was a good teacher because she helped us with the tasks we had to do. The best part of the excursion was seeing a fellow peer fall into the water.
