Principal's Report

Debbie Oliver

Our NAPLAN testing for Years 3, 5, 7, and 9 has now concluded. Overall, I have been impressed by how seriously students have approached the testing and how supportive our teachers have been over the whole testing period. Thank you, particularly to Sue Watson, Abby Misiti, and Sophie Jones, for their excellent organisation and administration of Naplan.

Parents and carers will receive an individual student report later in the year.

Last week, our School Review concluded. The 5 days of the review were spread over 3 weeks, with the reviewers spending time in classrooms, interviewing students, staff and parents and analysing data. We now await the final report and have begun drafting our new 4-year strategic plan. Our reviewer will return to the school early next term to present the whole college staff and school council. We are still waiting for the final dates to be confirmed.

One early concern that has arisen from the review process is that we, as a school, need to adhere more closely to the state-wide Mobile Phone Policy. I have attached our policy in this newsletter and encourage students and families to look closely at the document. Further information will be released prior to the start of the next term concerning the processes that will be followed when students breach the policy.

N.B. Note the Mobile Phone Policy is a Ministerial policy formally issued by the Minister for Education under section 5.2.1(2)(b) of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic). https://www2.education.vic.gov.au/pal/students-using-mobile-phones/policy

Yesterday, Harmony Day was celebrated across Australia, and our primary-aged children celebrated the day with loads of activities and the creation of a huge banner. Harmony Week is the celebration that recognises our diversity and brings together Australians from all different backgrounds. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone, which fits in so well with our school values.

This is our last newsletter for the term, so I hope everyone enjoys the Easter break and the holidays that follow.

Regards
