This year, Mitcham PS has begun to partner with other schools in our network including, Mullauna College, Blackburn High School, Old Orchard, Kerrimuir and Whitehorse PS. As well as strengthening ties within our network, collaborating with other schools offers a multitude of advantages that extend beyond the classroom. One of the most significant benefits is the opportunity for knowledge sharing. Each school possesses its own unique strengths, expertise, and resources. By partnering with other local schools, we can tap into this wealth of knowledge, gaining fresh perspectives and innovative ideas that enrich our teaching practices and enhance the learning of our students.

Next term, we will be hosting teachers from our partner schools to observe our classrooms and teaching practice, and we in turn will visit some of the schools to learn from them. In the high school area, we are focusing on finding out more about teaching practice in Years 7&8 so that we can better prepare our Grade 5/6 students to transition to secondary education. The high schools are also very keen to learn more about how Numeracy and Literacy are taught in the primary setting so that they can build on the knowledge and skills that students bring with them when entering Year 7. Old Orchard PS are coming to see how we teach using the Readers and Writers Workshops in our Literacy blocks, and Kerrimuir and Whitehorse PS are continuing our collaborative work with Harvard Data Wise that each school has trained teachers in.

We are really looking forward to developing our relationships with our local network schools. As they say, ‘Teamwork makes the Dreamwork!’
