Library News

On Tuesday 12 March, our school hosted the first-round match of the annual New South Wales Junior Chess League Country Knockout. Our team of Owen W, Vincent B, Jackson Q, and Samuel G, achieved a hard-fought win over Scone Grammar School. They are now looking forward to playing in the second round of the tournament.

Apart from chess, LEGO has proven to be immensely popular with our students. At present, two of our students are working on LEGO projects. Samantha S is constructing the Viking Ship, because she “enjoys building something during recess and lunch.” Whereas Alyssa E is building the LEGO Toy Shop, and “has fun completing this project.” Each day the library offers a different activity.

Another program on offer is the Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC). Students will receive a certificate if they read twenty books, including up to ten books of their own choice. Please email Mr Boyce on andrew.boyce@mn.catholic.edu.au if you wish to register.  The library has a range of PRC titles available for loan.

The NRL Footy Tipping competition kicked off on Sunday 3 March with a double-header in Las Vegas. Tips for round three are to be submitted to library staff by 3.15pm on Thursday afternoon. At the end of twenty-seven rounds the first three place getters will receive a box of chocolates as a prize. It is free for staff and students who would like to join. There will be a ladder and leaderboard made available in the 'Fiction' area.

Aunty Wanda is collating a folder of indigenous games ranging from early childhood through to resources for teenagers. This folder can be used for classroom reference, or for learning how to play and participate in games. The folder will be kept in the new 'Indigenous Section' of the library. It is hoped that these new resources will assist the school body in learning about Indigenous culture. Aunty Wanda is hoping that this resource will be available in Week 9 of Term One.
