National Student Leadership Summit

From 7-10 March, six St Joseph’s Year 11 students attended the National Student Leadership Summit at St Peter’s College, Adelaide. Olivia, Lily, Lauren, Ryan, Sullivan and Jack formed part of the Upper Hunter Where There’s a Will Student Leadership Team.

The Summit aims:

🌟 Designed by students, for students: Crafted with the needs of youth leaders' goals in mind, ensuring an experience that's relatable, engaging, and truly impactful.

🎓 Learn from the best: Hear from like-minded students. Be inspired by each other's stories, strategies and secrets to becoming influential young leaders within their communities.

🤝Connect: Network with peers from across Australia, share ideas and forge connections that will last a lifetime. Discover the power of collaboration and community in driving positive change.

On Tuesday, 19 March, the Upper Hunter team will come together again to begin planning their own Student Leadership Summit for their peers. This will be hosted by St Joseph’s on Thursday 20 June.

Service Learning – Red Door Community Kitchen

Last week we began our partnership with the Red Door Community Kitchen in Muswellbrook.

All St Joseph’s Student Leadership Team will attend every Thursday between 11:30am and 1pm on a rotational basis. Four students will attend each week to assist with the service of meals and clean up.

We are excited by the opportunity for our students to engage in this worthwhile program.

NAPLAN 2024

Each year the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is undertaken by students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. Students will participate in tests for writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy.

NAPLAN 2024 will take place from Wednesday 13 March to Monday 25 March.

NAPLAN is just one part of our school learning assessment program. The tests assess literacy and numeracy skills your child is already learning at school.

In preparation for NAPLAN, our school will undertake activities to help students become familiar with the format and functionality of the online tests. These activities are not an assessment of student ability and will not be marked. Excessive preparation for NAPLAN is not required nor recommended.

The public demonstration site (https://www.nap.edu.au/online-assessment/public-demonstration-site) is available to see the types of questions, tools and functions used in the NAPLAN tests.

Further information about NAPLAN is available on the NESA website (https://educationstandards.nsw.edu.au/wps/portal/nesa/k-10/understanding-the-curriculum/naplan/parent-information).

If you have any questions about NAPLAN, please contact the school.
