Staff Professional Learning Term 1

On Monday Staff attended Professional Learning on Understanding Trauma, Understanding Behaviour in the Context of Specific Disability, and Supporting Students through Escalation. The learning was facilitated by Craig Moore and Amy Butler from the Catholic Schools Learning Support Unit in Newcastle.

Staff looked closely at how best to support the learning of students with dyslexia and what adjustments are necessary in the classroom to allow them to access the curriculum on the same basis as their peers.

Our next Professional Learning pupil-free day will be on Friday 12 April which is the last day of Term 1 when staff will complete their mandatory Faith Accreditation. The module entitled “Faith, Story, Witness” is the minimum compulsory faith training for all staff who work in a Catholic school.

Staff also have a Twilight Professional Learning evening coming up on 25 March when we will work back after school from 3:30pm-6:00pm with our NESA (NSW Education Standards Authority) Liaison Officer who will work with us on consistently awarding A – E grades to students who complete their ROSA (Record of School Achievement) in Year 10 and Year 11.

It is unusual for us to have two pupil-free days within one term, but it was necessary to secure the facilitators to work with staff.

Attendance Competition Term 1

We will run a raffle again this year for each term with one raffle ticket for every student who has a 95% attendance rate or above for the term. Currently, 36% of the students enrolled have an attendance rate above 95%. As you can see from the graphic below 95% attendance allows for 10 days off school per year. This is the industry standard for most employees, so apart from the obvious learning benefits from being in class every day, we are preparing students for the expectations of the big wide world of employment. Parents are asked to please support the school by ensuring that their child attends every possible school day that they can.
