Mandarin

大家好!

Wow, can you believe it’s almost the end of term? Pan Lao Shi and Wang Lao Shi have had a great time exploring all the different classroom learning experiences with you all! The past couple of weeks we have continued with word study and continued linking with classrooms to explore Mandarin.

Students in Foundation have continued exploring words for you and me, and have started adding phrases such as ‘I want’, ‘I don’t want’ and ‘good’ and ‘bad’, practising language through peer interactions to link with their Central Idea of ‘Cooperation supports playful learning’.

Students in Year One have continued learning about colours in Chinese and constructing a Chinese Opera Mask that they will create in Visual Arts and use to perform in Performing Arts. Students have also used their colour knowledge to play familiar games in Mandarin. This links with the Classroom as they explore themes with ‘Curiosity leads to discovery’.

Students in Year Two have continued exploring modes of transport and linking Che. Students have created their own memory game and looked at fast and slow modes of transport to link with ‘Transport systems connect communities’.

Students in Year Three have continued looking at different names for places in Mandarin and building their vocabulary to ask questions relating to directions. Students have learnt to ask where a place is in Chinese and state ‘a place is here’ in Mandarin, linking with the Central idea ‘Communities respond to local needs’.

Students in Year Four have continued exploring picture based Chinese characters that link habitats and animals together. Students have looked at how habitats and animals have been impacted in Chinese to tie in with the Classrooms Central Idea of ‘Human actions impact the sustainability of living things’. Students have also specifically looked at Giant Pandas and the decline in their environment.

Students in Year Five have continued their unit ‘Energy is used to shape the world’ and have linked Dian (electricity) with different appliances and modes of power to create a base list of words to then further explore. Students have researched different energy names and have begun creating informational bilingual posters to explain their chosen energy type.

Students in Year Six have continued exploring Dynasties and Emperors of China and creating timelines to see how the Central Idea ‘Systems support decision making’ was applied in ancient China. Students have also looked at and compared the Australian and Chinese government systems, creating a venn diagram stating similarities and differences of the two systems.
