Celebrating Cultural Diversity in Foundation!

Cultural Diversity Week is an annual celebration of the state’s diverse and powerful multicultural communities, and is acknowledged and celebrated in many different ways. In Foundation, we discuss people, families, languages, food, homes, countries, traditions, celebrations, feelings, appearance, acceptance and feeling a sense of belonging. We are promoting rich discussions, unpacking the learner profile attribute; Open Mindedness, and are using our communication skills to make connections and share our own cultural stories.

We have used different mentor texts to drive our discussions and to help our students appreciate the similarities and differences and that make everyone special and unique. Students have engaged in a variety of learning experiences to emphasise and celebrate diversity, offering a safe and happy space where we can all confidently express ourselves and be a part of an inclusive learning environment.

A highlight of our week was connecting to the theme; ‘Our Shared Stories - Celebrating Together’, as we made class books to share the story of our family and our culture. We can’t wait to continue to make connections and learn about different cultures during our special, ‘Countries of ENPS’ day next Thursday!
