Year Two Team News

with Steph, Joel and Georgia

Hello Year Two families,

Just like that, we are reaching the end of Term One and approaching a well deserved Easter break. It has been a busy, exciting and successful term and all of our Grade Two students should feel very proud of the start they have made to the school year.

Thank you to all the parents who joined us for our open afternoon. It was terrific to see the pride our students took in showing their families the work they have been doing this term.

We would also like to thank all the parents who volunteered their time to come on our local walk around Williamstown on Monday. Despite the hot weather, it has been great hearing the curiosity it has created for our students to want to know more about their local surroundings. It has also been refreshing to see the pride and gratitude our students have shown in being part of the Williamstown community .

Important news for Term Two:

  • Parent Helpers:  Starting from Week 2, we will begin having parent helpers to assist with our literacy program. The main part of the role would be assisting our reading program by reading one on one with our students to give them extra one on one assistance with decoding, fluency and comprehension. This will run on Wednesdays and Fridays. If this is something you are interested in doing, please ensure you have completed the Parent Volunteer Induction on Compass and the office has a current Working with Children Check on file, before contacting your child’s teacher about your availability so that they can put together a timetable and give you as much notice as possible.

Curriculum Focus: Weeks 8 - 9

Literacy: In Writing, we will be editing and publishing our ‘My Pet the Hero’ narratives. In Reading, we will be continuing to revise the Little Learner’s Love Literacy sounds and practising reading with our fluency pairs.

Numeracy:  We will be continuing to learn about subtraction, as well as revising what we have learnt about this term.

Inquiry: We will be finishing off our inquiry topic ‘What are things made of and Why?’

Willy Kids: Through the pillar of Learning, we are learning about what it looks like to be considerate to others.

Special Reminders:

Grade 2 Sleepover: Although there is still quite a while until our Grade 2 sleepover in late Term 3, tThis holiday period may be a good opportunity for your child to have a sleepover with a friend to assist them in building their confidence about spending a night away from home later on in the year.

School Hats: In Term 2, hats won’t be required to be worn at school.

Blue Book Bags: In order to help us with our reading program, it is imperative that students continue to bring their blue book bag to school each day. It has been pleasing to see this being done by our Willy Kids consistently in Term One and we ask that this continues Term Two.

Until next time,

The Grade Two Team - Steph Keswick (2K), Joel Kitchen (2J) & Georgia Grainger (2G)
