Term 1 Week 7

Soooo much fun this week…

Kinder Picnic,

SRC fundraiser for HoMie,

Three Way Conferences

Foundation Parent Information Night

School Council Sub-Committees

It might have been a short week with the Labour Day holiday but we sure know how to fill four days.

Parent/Carer Phonogram Course Expression of Interest

In Term Two, we will be running our very popular Family Phonogram Course again. It is open to all parents/carers in Kinder and the Primary School and will run over three Thursdays - 2nd, 9th and 16th of May.

The three sessions will help you to understand our whole school Reading and Writing program and learn more about the way we teach your child to read and write.

These sessions are particularly valuable for Foundation parents and we also highly recommend kinder and school families new to the school to attend the program. The program will also be open to parents of students entering the school in 2025 and we encourage you to come along and learn about the program.

We ask that those attending commit to attending all three sessions as each session leads into the next. Unfortunately, the course is designed for adults and is therefore not suitable for students or younger siblings to attend.

Please complete the Google Form, linked below, to express your interest in attending this year's Family Phonogram Program.

School Photos

This year our whole school photo day will be held on Wednesday 1st May 2024. A email has been sent out on how to purchase photo packages.

to support us by having a board up. If you do please contact Louise in Reception, we would be most grateful.

Stadium Working Party Call Out

Huge thank you to our new and ongoing School Councillor's who joined our sub-committee meetings on Wednesday night, Education, Facilities, Community Services and Personnel and Finance  we all met over zoom which will be very helpful for our full meeting next Thursday.

We have been approached by Chris Lloyd from Mitcham Thunder Basketball Club

to work together on getting our Stadium built. We have the designs from our Master Plan and only need to source the funding. Working with organisations in the community is viewed by the Victorian Schools Building Authority (VSBA) very favourably. Are you interested in helping us out by joining a working party? We would love to have anyone who is interested on board. Please make contact.

Our Colour and Slime Run 4 Fun

Get your Colour on! MPRPS is hosting a Colour Splatacular Run 4 Fun on Friday the 19th of April 2024!

Students have received a sponsorship book with instructions on setting up a cybersafe, online fundraising profile at www.australianfundraising.com.au. This is an entirely online fundraiser; all cash donations must be converted to online donations. Colour Run 4 Fun fundraising.

In past years we have raised money for our Gaga Pits, which are a very popular addition to our playgrounds. This year students are looking at raising money for an outdoor classroom/yarning circle in the Student Garden area. This would facilitate the learning that occurs in the Kitchen Garden program and also provide additional space for meeting as a class.

Previously, we have communicated and sent flyers advertising a range of different toy prizes students can claim at the end of the fundraiser. Whilst these prizes are fun, they have various sustainable impacts on our families. In response to family feedback we advise that when families and students raise money, they may select a donation to one of the following causes as part of the process, instead of a prize:

-Great Barrier Reef Foundation (coral planting, protect a turtle),

-Carbon Neutral (tree planting),

-Oz Harvest (providing meals) or

-The Smith Family (reading support).

On the fundraising website, you will still be given the option of a prize selection, but we encourage our MPRPS families to select the donation option and at the end of the fundraiser you will be able to see how much our school has contributed to each of these causes.

Please make sure you register and start fund raising, ready for our event to be held on the first Friday in Term 2 - Friday April 19th.

We are so excited for the Splatacular!

For more information or if you would like to volunteer and be involved on the day, please contact Hamish Burrill through Sentral.

Kinder Picnic @ Cow Park

After all the challenges of  the recent Melbourne weather it was lovely to catch up with all of our Kinder families at Cow Park in perfect weather. Huge shout out to Nick McGowan for his visit and all our Kinder staff who prioritised this event.

Such a lovely way to connect with each other. Our next event will be the Family Breakfast and Easter Hat Parade - we look forward to meeting up again.

School Lunch Orders - Thursdays

We are excited to let you know that lunch orders are back! These will begin in Term 2 and be available every Thursday for purchase. Please find attached the menu to see what is available.

Foundation Information Night

Thank you to all of the families that came along. This was a great chance to catch up with everyone and answer any questions our Foundation parents may have. Huge thank you to our Foundation teachers, Cassie, Tegan and Emma for a fun presentation but I think the highlight was visiting the classrooms and being able to look through students work. Students had added sticky notes to their books to draw attention to their parents which work they were most proud of so far!

NAPLAN underway

Students in years three and five have completed the Writing and Reading NAPLAN assessments. Next week is the Mathematics and Spelling and Conventions of Language assessments.

Planning Week

Next week all teachers will have a specific day where they will work together to discuss and plan Term Two’s overview including learning tasks and special events.

On the planning day the students in that cohort will have all their specialist lessons on the one day rather than across the week.

The planning days will be as follows:

Monday: Specialists (no specialist lessons on this day)

Tuesday: Foundation

Wednesday: 1/2

Thursday: 5/6

Friday: 3/4

PMP Program

Our perceptual motor program (PMP) for Foundation students is into its second week. This is an active 30min that is held for each Foundation class every Friday morning. Students are involved in balancing, rolling, jumping, throwing and catching to help develop their gross motor skills. It is also a fun way to keep fit and be engaged in physical activity. Thank you to the parent helpers who have assisted in supporting the students in these sessions. If you are able to assist for a Friday session please contact Hamish Burrill.
