Principal's Message

Dr Andrew Cousins

Dear Parents and Carers

As we approach the end of Term 1, I am delighted to share that we have commenced the year embracing our 2024 theme of 'Dream Big and Loud', inspiring each other to aspire to greatness and to reach for the stars. I am reminded that greatness extends beyond grand achievements or monumental milestones; it resides equally in the fabric of everyday efforts and the commitment to doing one's best. It's found in the small acts of kindness, the persistence in the face of challenges, and the unwavering dedication to personal growth. True greatness lies in the willingness to embrace each opportunity with enthusiasm and to pour one's heart into even the simplest tasks. It's in the resilience to keep going, the courage to push beyond limitations, and the humility to celebrate progress, no matter how incremental. In essence, greatness thrives not only in the extraordinary but also in the ordinary moments, where perseverance and authenticity shine brightest. At Clayfield College we foster this environment of greatness by preparing and educating every student to achieve their personal best. As the scripture upon which our motto is founded says:

"In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:16

During the term we witnessed our students’ steadfast commitment to personal development through daily training for sporting events, faithfully attending ensemble practices every week, dedicating themselves to musical rehearsals, challenging themselves in academic rigor, and a myriad of other endeavours. Collectively, we have celebrated our shining light at Foundation Day, International Women’s Day, Harmony Day, and the achievements of our 2023 graduates and induction of our 2024 leaders at the Scholars’ and Investiture Assembly. After a well-earned break, I look forward to seeing our students continue to ‘Dream Big and Loud’ next term.

Throughout the Easter break, the campus will remain bustling with activity. Alongside our routine maintenance schedule, several capital projects will continue during this time:

  • Visual Art Rooms refurbishment
  • Construction of the Primary School Playground
  • Renovations in the Carolyn Hauff Boarding House

We will also be preparing for the commencement of the GLA Building construction and the arrival of the relocatable classrooms which will be required during this time.  The current project timeline will see the demolition of MU2 and construction commence in the first few weeks of Term 2.  This GLA Building includes Design Technology Workshops as well as General Learning Areas. The builder's compound for this construction project will see some short-term changes to the way we move around the Tuckshop Courtyard, these changes will be communicated at the start of Term 2.

At the end of this term we farewell Ms Fran Wilson (Director of Experiential Learning), Ms Claire Partridge (Prep), Mrs Denise Burns (Year 5) and Mr David Churcher (Facilities and Maintenance Manager). We thank them for their contribution to the College and wish them all the best as they embark on their new endeavours. We also extend our sincere thanks and bid farewell to Mr Thomas McPherson who has stepped into the role as Acting Chaplain while Rev Paul Yarrow has been on long service leave.

Lastly, as we near the Easter season, I extend my wishes to you and your loved ones for a blessed Easter abundant with blessings, love and peace.

Kind regards
