HOLY WEEK PRESENTATIONS

Over three days students in Year 1, Year 4 and Year 6 will be presenting the main events of Holy Week.  The details of each event are:

Palm Sunday

The Year 1s will be retelling the story of Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem, on Friday 22nd March. Parents can attend either the 12:30 or 2:30 performance.  These will take place in the school Hall.  The Year 1s have been practising very hard for this production and are looking forward to seeing parents at these performances.

Holy Thursday

Our Year 4 students will be releasing their Last Supper Video on Monday 25th March. Families will be sent a link to this Video via Operoo.  This has been a great way for the students to begin their preparations to receive their First Holy Communion later in the year.

Good Friday

The Year 6s will lead our school community through a live reenactment of the passion and death of Jesus, on Tuesday 26th March. Students will be presenting the 14 Stations of the Cross and giving other students the opportunity to pray and reflect on the sacrifice made by Jesus for us all.

NATIONAL RIDE2SCHOOL DAY

This Friday 22nd March, students all around Australia are encouraged to ride to school.  This is a particularly important day for us at St John’s because we are in the unique position of having a Bike Ed Program here at school.  Join more than 350,000 students across the nation who will be riding, walking, scooting or skating to school on this day.

Thanks to Mrs Stevenson who has made a couple of videos for any families needing a refresher on how to change or repair a tyre tube for a bike.  Please click on the links below to watch these tutorials:

SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION

Baptised Catholic students in Year 3 have been preparing to celebrate their Sacrament of Reconciliation this year.   Thank you to all the families who attended our Meeting Night last week.  A reminder that the Sacrament will take place this Thursday 21st March @ 7:00pm in the School Hall.   We look forward to seeing everyone on the night and thank you once again for your continued support.

NAPLAN 2024 COMPLETED

Yesterday students in Year 3 and Year 5 sat their final NAPLAN assessment for 2024.  The children are to be commended for the calm and confident way they approached these sessions.  The Government will send parents a report of their child’s progress on the assessments later in the year, and the school will notify families  when we receive these results.

STAFFING UPDATE

Mrs Karen Milkovic will commence her Maternity Leave at the end of this term.  Miss Georgia Burston will be taking over fulltime as the classroom teacher in Term 2.  Georgia has been working closely with Karen throughout this term, to ensure a seamless transition for the children in Year 4.

FRIDAY ICY POLES - $1

Each Friday during this Term, Year 6s from our Student Voice Group have organised the sale of Zooper Dooper Icy Poles before afternoon play.  Our final day will be this Friday 22nd March.

2024 SACRAMENTAL INFORMATION

An important aspect of preparing for any Sacrament is to attend Mass each weekend. Fr Albert is encouraging every child in the Parish of St Andrew’s who is preparing to celebrate a sacrament this year, to attend Mass regularly, to receive God’s abundant graces.

Children preparing for their First Confession, First Holy Communion or to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation this year, will receive a Mass Journal as part of their Sacramental preparation.  The Journal is an easy way for families to record the Masses they attend throughout the year.  Please remember to take a pen to Mass so the priest can sign your Journal for you at the end of Mass.

Below is a list of the Sacramental Dates for 2024, which includes the dates of Practise Nights and Parent Information Sessions:

ST JOHN THE APOSTLE COMMUNITY MASSES

Throughout the year we will be holding several weekend Masses, here in the school Hall.  All families are warmly invited to attend these Masses.  Please check the poster below for which months we will be holding a Mass.

SUBWAY LUNCH ORDERS

The school will continue our partnership with Subway this year.  This initiative provides students with an opportunity to receive a ‘lunch order’, that families have ordered and paid for online, prior to the day.

Orders must be placed by 11am the Wednesday prior. (Wednesday, 14th February)
