Sustainability

Year 2 Incursion: Term 1, 2024

This term the Year 2s have been learning about Sustainability topics, in particular Reuse, Reduce and Recycle in our Inquiry and Science units. 

Last week, the students were fortunate to participate in a free incursion run by the Whitehorse Council Environmental Education staff.

We were shown a presentation on Sustainability, the Earth’s resources and waste in our world. The students were posed with many questions including; how we can contribute as a community and as individuals to a sustainable society, and how we reduce-reuse-recycle-rethink?

Afterwards, the students were divided into smaller groups to participate in hands-on learning activities. They enjoyed a relay sorting different ‘clean’ rubbish into the correct bins and guessing the  time it takes for different materials to break down. There were many surprised faces at the correct answers.

We would like to thank Tanveer and Cassie for a very informative incursion where we the students were actively involved in learning about the three Rs.
