Hello VPS families! It's hard to believe that we are already a quarter of the way through the year already, and that we are about to head into Easter holidays. We have had so many things happening in the last few weeks, with camps, excursions, incursions and whole school events like the Colour Run, Harmony Day and Hot Cross Bun Day all supported by our amazing staff and community helpers. Having a community that works together to create memories and opportunities for our students is what makes VPS such a wonderful place!
We had the perfect day last Friday for our Colour Run! It was so great to see so many smiling faces and happy children and adults. This is a wonderful community event, and something that the students (and teachers) have been looking forward to all term. We would like to thank the Community Network and parent volunteers for helping to put the day together, and a special thank you to Mic our DigiTech teacher who took on a leading role in designing the course and obstacles, along with our Year 6 Leaders.
We are so pleased to announce that the community raised a whopping $14,974. This money will go toward replacing the flooring in our Stadium, something that the school has been planning for a long time. Unfortunately, this is a very expensive exercise, but community fundraising brings us closer toward making this a reality.
We would like to thank all the students, teachers and families for the engagement with this year's Harmony Day celebrations. It was wonderful to see so many different cultures represented, and student (and families) enjoying some performances and special activities.
We would like to say a huge thank you to Mrs Fuller and Ms Battle for their work in leading the Humanities and Cultural Inclusivity Team who put the day together.
Mrs Fuller's message about Harmony Day is included below.
We celebrated Harmony Day on Tuesday 26th of March this year. We are very fortunate to have an inclusive and very multicultural school. 130 of our students were born in another country. Most of those were born in Asia and we also have students born in the Middle East, Europe and Africa. 64% of our students can speak another language – that’s pretty impressive!
We learnt about what makes us proud of being so multicultural at VPS and saw some of our talented students showcase their heritage at the assembly. We had some great debates in Grade 5, looked at Grade 6 and Foundation fingerprints and made a Filipino toy in Grade 4. In Grade 1, we made a paper dragon and Grade 3 students created a collaborative artwork. Grade 2 learnt about Italy and made their own pizzas.
We would like to say 'Well Done' to all of the Year 3 and Year 5 students who participated in the 2024 NAPLAN process. We are very happy to say that all eligible students took part and tried their best in all assessments. We look forward to the results so that the school can identify any areas we need to focus on.
A big THANK YOU to the VPS Community Network. This is a group of parents that attend meetings on a Friday morning or if they cannot attend due to other commitments they help out the school when needed. They have had a very busy term as they have been involved in supporting the following events:
Here are a couple of photos of some of our amazing parents
Jess, Joy and I greatly appreciate what our parent community do for our amazing school, but most importantly our students.
Just a reminder that we are now using Compass as our school communication platform, and strongly encourage all parents and carers to have this on their device. In the event of an emergency, we will communication with parents via Compass or a Compass-linked SMS system.
On behalf of the staff at Vermont Primary School, we would like to thank everyone for a great Term One. We wish you a safe and happy break and we look forward to seeing you all again at the beginning of Term 2 on Monday 15th April 2024.
