Skipping Class is Not OK

Some students are skipping classes: this article contains important information to change this concerning trend.

Why Skipping Class Matters

Missing class hinders a student's ability to:

  • Grasp key concepts: Each lesson builds upon the previous one. Skipping creates gaps in understanding.
  • Stay engaged: Active participation in class discussions and activities strengthens knowledge retention.
  • Develop good habits: Regular attendance fosters responsibility and time management skills.

Consequences of Skipping

Truancy can lead to:

  • Lower grades: Missed coursework directly impacts academic performance.
  • Disciplinary action: Schools have consequences for unexcused absences.

Family Support is Key

Parents and guardians play a vital role, so Doncaster SC urge families to:

  • Discuss the importance of regular attendance: Set clear expectations and emphasize the value of education.
  • Monitor attendance records: Follow up with you child whenever you receive Unexplained Absence Notifications on Compass
  • Address underlying issues: If you notice your child is skipping classes, work with the school to help identify and address any root causes.

Working Together, Learning Together

By prioritizing attendance and maintaining open communication, families and teachers can ensure students are on track for academic success. Remember, good habits formed in Junior School pave the way for a strong foundation in the later years of high school and beyond.
