Comparative Judgement - Leading the Way

Most recently at Sacred Heart we reviewed our writing assessment schedule. We invested our time in a process called Comparative Judgement. Comparative Judgement is a process where judges compare two responses online and decide which is the better piece. Research has shown the process to be as reliable as double marking but much quicker.

This process involves whole-school judgements in May and November to align with our report writing and assessment. Using a picture prompt we have chosen to participate in a National Assessment with our Grade 2, 4, and 6 children in February and September. Along with a reliable and efficient measurement process, our school received a scaled score, potential NAPLAN band indicator, and student writing age for our students. The data allows tracking of individuals, cohorts, and school-to-school comparison – demonstrating progress over time.

Our most recent assessment outcomes revealed notable progress among our students and cohorts. Sparking immense enthusiasm, our Year 2 students took out  the top position nationwide. Among a cohort of 4,133 students representing over 85 schools, our young achievers emerged as triumphant leaders.

Our dedictation to nuturing the fundamental elements of writing, beginning with 'the sentence' is yielding brilliant results.
