Principals' Report

School Review

Our school review began earlier this week.  The review takes 4 days (over 2 weeks).  We have already spent time in classrooms, talking to students and looking at a range of the school’s data sets and look forward to next week when we spend more time in classrooms.

I would like to thank Tracey Mottershead (SC President), Brett Miller (Principal, Osborne PS) and Rohan Cooper (Principal, Caulfield South PS) for giving us their time to assist us with our review.

The outcome of our review will form our school’s next School Strategic Plan.

Shady Character

Shady Character = Mr Hickey!

The new shade sail has been installed thanks again to Mr Hickey’s grant.  This just adds to the shade available to our students over the warmer months as well as helping to continually update our grounds!

Staffing for 2024

Good bye/See you soon

Mrs Meredith Flanner

Mrs Flanner will be retiring from teaching after a 35 year career working in both inner city and country schools. Meredith has had numerous roles at LPS as a relief teacher and it was good to finally snap her up to finish out her last 5 years here at LPS leading our Year 2 team.  Meredith has mentored many younger educators over the years and worked with many students and families. I personally have appreciated Meredith’s support and friendship over the past 5 years and I know we would all wish her well in retirement and hope she gets to spend planet of time at the beach and (dare I say) barracking for her beloved Hawks.

Mr Bernard Hickey

Mr Hickey will be moving schools (Cheltenham PS) in 2024 to further his educational experience.  Bernard has been with us since 2014 and worked his way within the school to become a Year 6 level leader.  Bernard will be missed at LPS however we know this will be great for his career!

Mrs Lyndal Gunn

Mrs Gunn has only been with us for a short time, but we appreciate all the work she has done with the students in Prep G – ensuring they have developed a love of learning to set them up for another 12 years of schooling.  Lyndal will be returning to Mount Martha PS and we wish her all the best.

Mr James Mottershead

Mr Mottershead joined our team late last year to help us out of a staffing shortfall.  He has become an integral fixture in the Year 4 team this year and we appreciate the relationships he has developed with many of our LPS students.  We look forward to reading more of your articles in the Herald Sun footy section.   James will be moving up to the city.

Mr Anthony Smith

Mr Smith will be taking 1 year leave from LPS.  We look forward to seeing him back in 2025.

Expectations

There is still plenty of learning time to go in 2023.  We need to ensure that students understand that expectations haven’t changed at LPS. We still need to ensure respect is evident in all conversations and interactions and that school uniform is being worn.  I thank all parents in advance for having this conversation with their children.

Have a great fortnight.
