Update about word changes and the NDIS

NDIS has recently introduced a number of changes – one of these changes is about wording that has been used in the past.

What it used to be called:

  • (Full) plan review
  • Scheduled or unscheduled review
  • Change of Circumstances (CoC) review

What it is called now:

  • Plan reassessment

What does that mean for you?

If your child’s plan is coming to an end, or you need a significant change to the current plan, you may need a new plan. This process to develop a new plan is called a plan reassessment.

When NDIS does a plan reassessment, you will meet with an NDIS planner to create your child’s new plan. The old plan will end, and be replaced with a new one. This means you will receive a new plan with new funding.

Libby’s note – ask to meet face to face with the NDIS planner or do a video call; not a phone call!

What it used to be called:

  • ‘Light touch’ plan review
  • Plan extension, rollover or continuation
  • New plans with similar supports and new plans with minor changes

What it is called now:

  • Plan variation

What does that mean for you?

A plan variation is a small change to your current plan. When NDIS does a plan variation, only changes to the part of your plan we vary will be made. Your current plan keeps going.

Small changes that can be made include:

  • Goals.
  • Personal information, including your contact details.
  • Plan reassessment date.
  • The way funding is managed.
  • Providing funding for short-term supports when your situation changes suddenly.

Libby’s note – ask to meet face to face with the NDIS planner or a video call; not a phone call!
