Positive Behaviours for Learning (PBL)

At SFS, our school expectations are: Respect Responsibility and Kindness.

This week we have focused on Kindness in the Learning space: Include others. The children have learnt the reasons why it is important to encourage and support others.

  • So that everyone feels that they belong
  • We embrace diversity and appreciate differences in others
  • To help us connect or build relationships with each other
  • To work together to achieve learning
  • To encourage kindness
  • Teaches empathy

Some examples of including others are:

  • “Would you like to work in our group?”  Letting the teacher know if someone has no one to work with.
  • “Do you want to join our table?”
  • “Do you want to sit with us and eat?”

If the group has the right amount of people, it is okay for the group to say no. You might need to ask another group to join.

Using polite, respectful and inclusive language”. E.g. “Not today but I will help you find another group because our group has enough”.

Listening to everyone in the group, everyone gets a say.

Here are our junior PBL raffle winners who have been spotted demonstrating RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY and KINDNESS. Well done to these students and all the students who received a PBL card during the week!

Road Safety tips over the School Holidays

School holidays are just around the corner. Here is a timely reminder about road safety from the City of Casey to help keep our children safe on the roads during the long Christmas break.

“With school holidays approaching, daily routines will change.  Everyone becomes more relaxed and there will be different locations for your children to play in during the holiday period.  There may be changed traffic environments and new safety concerns that families need to be aware of.

To help keep our children safe, here are some handy key road safety tips during the holidays:

  • Always supervise your children.  Do not allow them to play in driveways or on nature strips.
  • Hold hands with your children when near roads and walking through carparks or shopping  centres as these can be busier with frequently reversing and moving vehicles.
  • Practice Stop, Look, Listen & Think every time you cross the road.
  • Teach children about road safety every time you are out near the roads - practice these life skills at traffic lights, zebra crossings and footpath curbs.
  • Roads, footpaths, parks, carparks, and bike tracks can look very different in the holiday period or maybe totally foreign to a child – take time to explain this to your child.
  • Ensure your child is in the correct child restraint and always wears their seatbelt when in the car.
  • When your child rides a bike or scooter, ensure they wear a helmet.    See below information to choose the correct helmet and fitting.
