From the Principal

It is hard to comprehend we are on the downward slope towards the Term 2 winter holidays. Teachers are busy at work preparing school Reports and Personalised Learning Plans for families. It certainly is a busy time for teachers and I thank them for their hard work and commitment to these compliance tasks.
Just a note about the drop off zone in the morning, please remember there is NO U-Turning in the school driveway, please follow the driveway to near the hall and complete and round turn as per the guidelines below.
Families who ordered school photos should have received them last Thursday, the feedback about the photos have been mainly positive. The only criticism of the process, was the time it took for these photos to be sent out. I have passed this feedback onto "The School Photographer".
Last Friday our staff were blessed to welcome Fr Elio Capra, a renowned and respected presenter in the Religious Education space. He worked with staff on deepening our understanding of the Sacraments within the Catholic faith. We thank Fr Elio for his work with our staff and we look forward to working with him again in the future.
Just a note for parents that Term 2 will finish on Friday, 4th of July @ 3:10pm. Term 3 will commence on Monday, 21st of July.
Use of Smart Watches:
The use of smart watches is now starting to become an issue at our school. Up to this point I have had no major issue with children wearing them. I would ask that parents support the school by directing your child to the school staff / office if they are feeling unwell if they contact you off their watch. If we continue to have issues in this space, I may have to ban the use of Smart Watches unless a discussion is had with the family around why the watch is needed.
A note about Maths Reporting - Semester 1:
Just a note for parents that in Semester 1 reporting we are now required to use the Mathematics 2.0 curriculum to assess student achievement. This is now split in six strand areas rather than three. As not all content areas have been taught yet, there may be a time where your child has an "NA" marked on their Maths reporting section. Please do not be alarmed by this, this just means we have not taught this content area yet. I have attached a photo of what I mean (this is a teacher view).
A message about holiday care from MACSEYE:
If families are looking for care and an engaging holiday program this July, we are operating a number of holiday programs at the following schools. Families and students attending MACS schools are welcome to access one of these holiday programs.
- St Scholastica’s, Bennettswood
- St Paul’s, Bentleigh
- St Elizabeths, Dandenong North
- St Mary’s, Hampton
- St Catherine’s, Moorabbin
- St Anthony’s, Noble Park
- Our Lady Help of Christians, Eltham
Families can contact MACSEYE’s Customer Service Team by email contact@macseye.vic.edu.au or 1300 501 029 and the team will help them enrol and book into a suitable program.
Thommies Market - St Thomas More Feast Day:
Tomorrow our school will celebrate the Feast Day of St Thomas More in style!!! We will be holding our annual Thommies Market, this will run from 11:45am-12:45pm and is a student only event. Parents are welcome to join together with the students at 9:00am for our Feast Day Liturgy. Please refer to the Operoo and SchoolStream sent out on Tuesday for more detailed information.
Bunnings BBQ:
This Saturday 21st June at Scoresby Bunnings we are holding our Sausage Sizzle, thank you to the families who have volunteered their time (see roster below), it is great to see lots of families willing to help for a couple of hours. Please note, volunteering at the Bunnings BBQ will count as a "Working Bee" and means the $100 maintenance levy will be taken off your school fees.
The Parents and Friends are running this event and the money will be used to support the school. Most recently the Parents and Friends have purchased the school some new sand pit toys, they have also covered the cost of the new dishwasher that was installed in the Hall Kitchen to help OSHC and our school upgrade our kitchen licence. They are always thinking of new ways to improve our school.
Pop in to grab a sausage if you are in the Scoresby area on Saturday.
