Level 3 & 4

Week 8, Term 2

🌱 QUEEN VIC MARKET EXCURSION - POSTPONED

Due to a number of factors, including limited availability of helpers, we have made the decision to reschedule our Queen Victoria Market excursion to Week 2 of Term 3. The other details of the excursion will remain the same, and updated details will be shared with families closer to the date. As this is a city-based excursion involving public transport, we will once again be seeking the generous support of parent volunteers to help maintain a safe adult-to-student ratio. Thank you for your understanding and ongoing support.

🌱 LITERACY

This week in Reading, students will enjoy the final chapter (Chapter 6) of Storm Boy and reflect on the story's conclusion. They will read the chapter closely and respond to comprehension questions to deepen their understanding. As part of their learning, students will create a timeline of key events to consolidate the plot. There will also be a vocabulary focus, with an emphasis on exploring word meanings in context.

In Writing, students will begin exploring persuasive writing. They will analyse example texts to identify key persuasive elements such as rhetorical questions, facts and opinions, and powerful quotes. Students will also take part in small group debates to practise expressing and defending their ideas. These activities will help them prepare to plan and draft their own persuasive pieces.

To support your child at home, you could ask them to retell the main events of Storm Boy and discuss how the story ends, helping reinforce their understanding of the plot. You might also talk about everyday topics that spark different opinions and encourage your child to explain their viewpoint using persuasive language.

In addition to this, you can also give opportunity for your child to practice touch typing with a keyboard or laptop at home.

🌱 NUMERACY

In Numeracy this week, students will continue to develop their skills in subtraction. They will explore the connection between addition and subtraction through fact families and practise using formal vertical subtraction strategies. Lessons will also focus on consolidating their understanding of grouping and renaming. Additionally, students will complete some standardised assessments to check for their long-term understanding of key concepts.

At home, you can support your child by practising basic addition and subtraction facts together and encouraging them to explain how the two operations are connected.

🌱 CBL

In CBL this week, students will have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the history of Australian cultures. Working in groups of three, they will collaborate to create a news report that highlights key aspects of what they have learned over the past few weeks. This task encourages creativity, teamwork, and the ability to communicate historical knowledge effectively. It also provides a chance for students to reflect on and consolidate their learning in an engaging format.

At home, you could support your child by discussing what they’ve learned about Australian cultures and helping them brainstorm ideas for their news report.

Wellbeing

This week in Respectful Relationships, students will explore Session 3.2: Taming Angry Feelings, which focuses on recognising and managing strong emotions in positive ways. You can view the lesson content here: Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships – Level 3–4

In Cyber Safety, students will engage with Session 6, which encourages them to think critically about honesty online through the question: "Is it ever okay to lie?"

🌿 REMINDERS

🌱 Please assist your child in ensuring that their iPad comes to school every day, fully charged.

🌱 Check that your child has headphones which work and connect to their iPad.

🌱 We are currently missing a number of books from the Library. Can you please help your child to check if any overdue Library books are hiding with them at home.

DROP OFF AND PICK UP IN LANTANA

Please be mindful of the road signs on Lantana Road. It is a NO PARKING zone in front of the school, during school start and finish times. To ensure a smooth and safe process, we have a designated pick-up system at the end of the day where a teacher monitors and guides students into cars lined up in the queue. This system works efficiently when there are no parked cars breaching the signage during these times. Thank you for your cooperation.
