Term 2 has seen the continuation of work conducted by the Environmental Council. On average, one 120L bin is being filled with the 10c containers per week. The Environmental Council still asks that all members of the school community continue to support this project by placing the 10c earn and return containers into one of the five specially designed bins placed around the school or into the recycle bins in each of the classrooms.
As we enter the Winter months, the Environmental Council volunteers have set up new seed trays. They have laid down eucalyptus, bottlebrush, wattle, hakea, lomandra and kurrajong tree seeds.
Two weeks ago, members of the Environmental Council field team planted a Gallipoli Pine gifted to the school. This plant was germinated from the seed of one of the descendants of a tree which was found at Gallipoli when ANZAC troops landed on 25th April 1915 during World War One. The school now has a living memorial for ANZAC Day. An exciting project as the tree grows will be to identify the species to ascertain if it is a true Lone Pine or another species from the peninsula.
The Environmental Council is always looking for volunteers. They meet every Thursday, second break, in Lab 1.
