Community Leaders

(Davide, Jay, Zelie and Mia)

Hello St Mary's community! We, the Community Leaders, have been working on social stories. We have been going around the school, taking photos in different environments to create a social story for every class. They will cover things like what we do when the bell goes, or how we walk safely in our lines across to Specialist.  We are hoping that this will help our students at St Mary’s gain a better understanding of how we show the different ways we use our school norms every day. We had a meeting with Mrs Ferrari, our Principal, about the social story, this week which went very well. Hope you have a wonderful rest of your week in the cold weather.

Wellbeing leaders

(Lavinia, Ethan and Anakin)

As Wellbeing Leaders we are in charge of taking care of the Zen Zone. We made a roster for the Year 6 students to help set it up each day and then pack it up. And all the students that are playing in the Zen Zone are playing very nice. It is a great spot for quiet play and there are lots of activities there.

This week we worked on our poster for Nude Food Friday. We'd love every day to be nude food, reducing the plastic in our environment is very important! Last week Year 5/6L won the award for least rubbish in their lunch boxes. Challenge thrown to other classes to bring their lunch and snacks in reusable containers. We will be checking classes each week.

Vinnies Winter Drive update, thanks to everyone who has donated. Yesterday we sorted and organised all the items we have received. There is only one more week for people to donate (last day is Friday the 27th of June) so a friendly reminder we really only need winter clothes: so any jackets, jumpers, blankets and coats would be very much appreciated. Please drop with your classroom teacher.

It's only 3 more months until The Imaginarium comes to life. Every few weeks Drew Lane has been visiting our school and teaching every class their songs and parts in the production. We have just learnt all of our songs and are now all down to practising. In seven weeks Drew Lane will be coming back for a whole school rehearsal.

We have also been learning the lyrics to the songs & the choreography to the dances. The leads have also been practising with Mrs Ferrari - we know this production is going to be fantastic!

The Footy Premiership

Last Friday, St Mary’s Football Team played in the footy round robin.

On that day, some of the Catholic schools in the area play each other until there is one school left. Our first game we played St James and had a gritty win.

We played two games in the round robin and went on to the semi finals, where we played against a strong, experienced St Josephs who went on to win the round robin competition playing St Agnes. We all had a great time playing in this tournament and even though it was cold, the rain stayed away.

For our next game on Friday the 20th of June we are playing St Agnes here at home on Alma Park. Finally our last game next week, we are playing OLOL at Orrong Park.

The Netball Premiership

Last week, on Thursday we played the Netball Lightning Premiership. As you know our school has two teams; one is in the B Division, which we call the Purple team and the other plays in the Mixed Division, which is the Yellow team.

The Purple team made it all the way to the Semi-Finals and then played Finals! For the Semi-Finals, the Purple team beat St. Anthony by 5 goals! The Purple team then played St. Catherine in the Finals, however we lost that game and our school came second in that division.

Our Yellow team did not make it onto the Semi-Finals but they gave their best and we are very proud of everyone who played. We have learnt so much over these weeks of playing on Fridays.

We have been enjoying playing and are very grateful to the teachers that come along on these days to help us.
