Term 2 - Classroom Science Expos

At St Mary’s, our Prep to Year 6 students have been exploring the fascinating world of energy as part of their Science learning. Across the school, students have engaged with concepts from the Physical Sciences strand, investigating how light, sound, heat and motion are produced and transferred. Through hands-on experiments, observations and creative projects, students have developed their scientific inquiry skills while discovering how energy impacts their everyday lives. From exploring how different materials conduct heat in the early years to designing simple circuits and renewable energy models in the upper grades, our learners have demonstrated curiosity, critical thinking and collaboration. We’re proud to celebrate and share their achievements as they build a deeper understanding of the science that shapes the world around them.

Spotlight on the School Choir

The School Choir continues to gather on Thursdays at lunchtime to stretch our collective  vocal muscles. The students have used their voices to select some popular and modern repertoire to work on, alongside some school and church favourites.

Being in a School Choir helps primary-aged students build confidence, teamwork and a sense of belonging through shared musical experiences. It also supports their cognitive and emotional development by strengthening memory, listening skills, and self-expression.

For families who might not be aware, Mr Millane, in his early studies completed  a Bachelor of Music (performance)  and holds an Associate of Music Australia and loves to help students feel confident performing and singing. All students are welcome to join and we look forward to getting out and about more in the community in Semester 2.

(PS Preps are welcome from Semester Two).

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD) On School Students with Disability

As stated in the NCCD Guidelines,

“Approved authorities and their schools must notify students and parents, guardians, carers or associates to ensure that all involved in the NCCD are fully aware of the data collection, its purpose, legislative basis, to whom NCCD data will be disclosed, and that

assurance activities may be conducted by the department in relation to the NCCD data (Department of Education 2025, p. 18).”

Please note that our school is currently preparing to complete the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). It counts the number of students who receive additional adjustments or “help” at school because of a disability.

Parents can refer to the fact sheets below for further information.

Please refer to the NCCD Portal for translated versions of the document.
