From the Principal

Dear Families

I encourage you to have a look at our website and instagram, as we are thrilled to share with you a video about us! Based on a fantastic book we use for Prep Orientation,  we can’t wait to share with you how smart we are the whole day through…

This has been a long held dream of Mrs Borgese, our Marketing Leader, supported by Miss Raffaele, our Instagram Leader and it has come to fruition. We thank Daniela for her hard work in sharing our school with the wider community and to Naomi for her interest in this area. We have so much to celebrate and this video encapsulates us, so well. I have had numerous families and colleagues email, call and speak with me about how great it looks. In the video, our children are front and centre and that is our St Mary’s way.  I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Last week we completed our School Review. Our community worked with Dr Judith Gurvich last Wednesday and Thursday as she met with students, families, staff and Father Jerome.  In our initial feedback session Judi highlighted our sense of community, from walking into the office area to permeating across all dimensions of the School Improvement Framework rubric. A huge thank you to those families that made themselves available to speak with Judi in person and online. Your insights will form a valuable part of the report as we plan for the next four years.

Science in action in partnership with St Mary’s College

This Term each Year Level has been exploring science and scientific thinking. We are so fortunate to work in partnership with St Mary's College as they kindly have given us access to their Science Laboratories. Timothy, their Laboratory Technician has gone above and beyond in presenting highly engaging and informative sessions and we are most appreciative. This week our Year 4 students led by Mrs McDonald and Mr Buttigieg explored how pushes and pulls, as forces, cause objects to move and that forces have both direction and strength. They also conducted experiments learning about how heat moves from one object to another and how it flows from hotter to colder objects through conduction. The students created hypothesis and then tested these.  Our students loved every second!

Winter Uniform

Could we please ask for support to ensure that the shirts with our Winter Uniform are tucked into the winter pants before arriving at school. How we present ourselves is very important and wearing the uniform correctly and proudly is part of this.  We thank you for your support.  We look forward to our Community Leaders presenting how to wear our uniform respectfully in a Social Story at an assembly later this Term.

Winter hygiene

Now that winter is upon us, could we please remind families to discuss winter hygiene at home. If your child/children are unwell could we please ask you to support the community by keeping them at home to rest and recover.

Movie Night

We are really looking forward to our Movie Night on the last Thursday of this Term. The middle of Winter is the perfect time to enjoy having pizza, an ice cream and popcorn, whilst watching a movie surrounded by friends. Please buy a ticket for your child, so they can join in on the fun. For those new to this exciting event, the children arrive at school in comfortable clothes at 5:30pm sharpand watch the movie they have booked in for. This event is supervised by myself, Mr Millane and members of the P & F.

MOVIES: the brand-new Minecraft Movie and the classic Monsters Inc

First Eucharist

We continue to pray for our students making their sacrament of First Eucharist this Sunday. We pray for their parents as their first educators in faith and thank Father Jerome, Mr Millane, Mrs McDonald, Mrs Perri, Mr Buttigieg and Mrs Abiad for supporting all of the students in Year 4 as they learn about and prepare for this important sacrament. We look forward to celebrating the 10:30am Mass with them.

Take care and wishing God's blessings and peace upon each of you.
