Principals Report

Acting Principal’s Message – Luisa Kalenjuk
I am delighted to introduce myself as the Acting Principal at Wales Street Primary School. Since stepping into this role, I have thoroughly enjoyed engaging with our vibrant school community and supporting our dedicated staff and students.
I have an initiative implementing "Classroom Connections," a collaborative effort led by our leadership team. This program involves members of the Principal team visiting classrooms to engage directly with students and teachers. The feedback has been positive, with students benefiting from the increased presence of leadership in their learning environments.
We are excited to continue this initiative, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and strong community connections.
We will welcome back Robyn at the beginning of next Term.
PYP Learner Profile – Communicator
Our Learner Profile attribute for this week is Communicator. Encouraging your child to explain their math homework or share stories through drawing or writing can enhance their ability to express ideas in various forms. Staying connected with relatives through letters, phone calls, or emails, especially those living abroad, can also broaden their linguistic and cultural perspectives. By creating a supportive environment that values open communication, parents play a pivotal role in developing confident and effective communicators. Our students have been focusing on being communicators this week during Play Based Learning Classes, working in groups, making Mentor posters and during Mini exhibition, collaborating in groups.
Grade 5 Mini Exhibition – How we express ourselves
Next week, our Grade 5 students will share their mini exhibition with the school community. Final preparations are underway. I look forward to seeing their artwork, research and poems. Parents can attend the following times:
3.20-4 pm on Tuesday, 2nd July
9- 10 am on Wednesday, 3rd of July
Semester reports
Twice a year, parents and carers receive a semester report which indicates your child’s achievement with a ‘progression point’. This progression point score is used from Foundation to Year 10 to track student achievement and growth along the learning continuum in 0.5 increments between the standard achievement levels (e.g. 3.0, 3.5, 4.0).
In addition to a progression point for each of the curriculum areas taught in the semester, teachers provide a description of the core concepts developed through the units of inquiry. A general comment is also written, which provides an overall summary of a student's progress, effort, and attitude across all learning areas. It often includes observations about the student's personal and social development, work habits, classroom behaviour, and engagement in school life. Semester reports will be available for families to read on Compass on Friday, the 4th of July at 3:00pm. There is a lot of extra work that goes into these student reports, and we thank all our staff for their efforts.
Junior School Council Free Dress Day: A Sizzling Success!
Our Junior School Council's Free Dress Day was a fantastic success, thanks to the generous support of TheirCare, who supplied a delicious sausage sizzle. Students enjoyed dressing in casual clothes and indulging in tasty sausages, all while contributing to a great cause. The funds raised will go towards upgrading our bike shed, enhancing our school's facilities for everyone. A big thank you to all who participated and supported this initiative!
