Year 5 & 6

Around our level

The students have reflected on the many memorable moments and activities they enjoyed during Term 2. Some of the highlights included delivering speeches and debating, researching countries around the world, helping to organise assemblies, enjoying watching NBA as a reward for their hard work, participating in interschool sport, celebrating the Teddy Bear’s Picnic, and showing great spirit and achievements on Aths Day. Students also appreciated opportunities to use their voice in decision-making and learning tasks.

This edition of the newsletter includes more student contributions, as they share their personal highlights from a fantastic term of learning and fun.

5/6A

My highlight of this term was Reconciliation Week because we did heaps of fun activities.  I am having so much fun with my friends. I have really enjoyed this term.

- Giselle A

Some highlights this term have been debates, speeches, teddy bear picnic and much more. This term has been great and  lets hope it can continue for the rest of the year.

- Jye C

This term, my highlight was interschool sport. I loved playing netball with my friends and we did have a lot of growth. We did not start out the best but we did get better and we had great teamwork and amazing sportsmanship.

- Ashleigh J

This year has been such a journey with so many exciting activities! But my all time favorite has to be speeches. My speech was ‘It's OK to be different’. It has to be my favorite piece of writing I have done so far. I worked very hard on it and I'm super proud! Then my 2nd favorite activity has been interschool sport. I play soccer and I scored my first goal  2 weeks ago, I was very very happy! I really enjoy playing with my team and playing against other schools. It is so much fun!

- Ivy K

Term Two in 5/6 has been the best term I have ever had! We had a teddy bears picnic, district cross country, speeches, debates, Athletics Day and Reconciliation Week. My most favourite is interschool sport where we go around playing other schools and having lots of fun. This Friday we are playing against St Annes and hopefully we play a fun, fair and exciting match!

5/6B

Teddy Bear Picnic was my favourite highlight for this term. I got to read a book to my buddy and got to share some of my snack. The book I read to my buddy was ‘When I grow up’. I found it fun and enjoyable.

- Levi P

We had a teddy bear picnic with our buddies and we had lots of fun. I ran in district cross country. I found it was a bit too hard because I was competing against more skillful students.

- Sam S

I enjoyed a lot about this term, but I do have a highlight. Free Dress Day was most likely my favorite. I love it because we can wear whatever we want and it's really comfy. I never really like wearing a uniform, so Free Dress Day is perfect. I also enjoyed some bits of Athletics Day. Overall, this term has been pretty good.

- Annie T

I love cross country, I find it fun and I made it into division. It's not about being fast, it was about having fun. I also love hanging out with friends and helping out. I also love the simple things like P.E and art and all specialists but my favorite was simply when I help my buddy or others. This term  was fun.

- Olivia W

Even though the morning of Aths Day was really cold and we had the 200m sprint up first, I really enjoyed the day. Our group had the running events in the morning and the throwing and jumping (Not including hurdles) later in the day. It's kind of sad that it was my last one ever. My group has always been super encouraging and I think that's great, especially for the people who don't enjoy sports.

- Emma W

5/6C

I went to district cross country. I came 31st out of around 100 students.  I was really happy with my place. At first I was worried but then I was fine. We went to Quambee Reserve. There is this massive hill and you have to run up and down it. Last year I came 59th. At the end I felt like I was going to fall because my legs were basically broken. After that I went home because my legs were too tired to go to school.

- Madi E

My highlight was the different research we did because I enjoy learning about new countries. We have learned about countries from Europe, North America and Asia. Sometimes we learn about a country together and other times we choose which country we want to research. I’ve learnt so many interesting facts about many countries.

- Tanis O

This term we have had a lot of student voice for what we want to do in reading, writing, homework and research. In reading we choose our individual reading books but also the class book. Often in writing sessions, we choose our topics or what we want to research and how we want to present it. We also had a say in the type of homework we received. It is really good that we get a say in our learning.

- Jackson S

A highlight this term for me has been to organise assemblies with the other captains. All four of us work together to plan the assembly. There have been a couple Mondays where one of the captains has been sick and couldn't come, but we've always been able to work together and help each other when we need it.

- Zoe R

This term I had the privilege to sing happy birthday and the national anthem at assemblies. Doing this has been so fun and I enjoy it so much. Ever since I have seen other Year 6 sing over the years,  I knew I wanted to do the singing. Now my dream came true, so I am very happy.

- Ashlea W
