Yarra Road Primary School 100 Year Celebration Sponsorship

To celebrate this milestone we are having a community celebration on the 12th and 13th of September. We are currently inviting expressions of interest for event sponsorship.

By partnering with us, your business will gain visibility among our students, families, and the wider community, demonstrating your commitment to local development and educational excellence. If you know a business that may be interested in sponsoring the event, please feel free to share this brochure with them.

If a sponsorship is not feasible at this time, we would be grateful for any donations of products or services to support our silent auction. Contributions of this nature are invaluable in enhancing the event experience and fostering a sense of community involvement.

Please use the QR code to register an expression of interest (more information will be provided to the interested businesses).

Planning Week

Next week (Week 11) our staff will be participating in Planning Week. This dedicated time allows teachers to work collaboratively to review student progress, reflect on learning programs, and plan for the term ahead. While classes will continue as normal, you may notice different teachers covering classes throughout the week to allow teams to engage in this important work. We appreciate your support as we continue to prioritise high-quality teaching and learning across the school.

Parent-Teacher Interviews

Parent-teacher interviews will be held next week (Week 11) and are a valuable opportunity to discuss your child’s progress, celebrate their achievements, and set goals for the term ahead. Bookings are now open and can be made through Compass. If you require any assistance with the booking process, please don’t hesitate to contact the school office.

Supporting a Healthy School Community This Winter

As the weather cools down, it’s common to see a rise in general illness across schools. To help keep our classrooms healthy and minimise the spread of germs, we kindly ask that you keep your child at home if they are feeling unwell, allowing them time to rest and recover fully before returning to school.

A Wonderful Open Evening!

Our recent Open Evening was a fantastic success! The classrooms were buzzing with excitement as students proudly shared their learning spaces with families. It was wonderful to see so many parents and carers engaging in games, activities, and tours around the school.

The specialist rooms were especially popular, with visitors eager to explore the exciting programs students take part in throughout the year.

Thank you to all the families who joined us, it was a vibrant and joyful celebration of our school community and the incredible learning happening every day.

Now Taking Enrolments for 2026

We are now accepting enrolments for Foundation (Prep) 2026. If you have a child who will be starting school in 2026, please contact the school office to request an enrolment pack.

Our school is a warm, welcoming, and inclusive community where every child is supported to thrive. We look forward to meeting the next group of families joining us on their learning journey.

Staffing Update

Rachel Freene will be concluding her time at Yarra Road at the end of Term 2. She has

made significant contributions to our school community, demonstrating dedication,

professionalism, and a commitment to student wellbeing and learning. We have

appointed Leah Bromage to the class until the end of the year.

Thank You for a Wonderful Term

As we reach the end of Term 2, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all our students, families, and staff for their ongoing support, enthusiasm, and contributions to school life. It has been a busy and successful term, filled with learning, growth, and community spirit.

We wish all our community a safe, restful, and enjoyable holiday break. We look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed and ready for an exciting Term 3!

School Policies

School policies outline, and communicate, school expectations, processes and procedures.

The Department of Education (DE) prescribes a cycle of policy review, that we follow, to ensure our policies are kept up to date and are compliant.

An important function of the School Improvement / Education Sub Committee (SIE) of School Council is to develop, review, and update school policies in accordance with DE requirements. Parents interested in policy review are welcome to join the SIE to participate in the policy review/development process, and do not need to be members of School Council. Please contact the school office if you are interested in participating.

Recently updated Yarra Road Policies include:

  • Child Safety and Wellbeing

  • Child Safety Responding and Reporting Obligations

  • Communication with School Staff

  • Respect for School Staff

  • Statement of Values and School Philosophy

  • Complaints

These and other policies are made readily available via the school website, ensuring that all members of the school community can easily access them. We encourage parents and carers, and where appropriate, students, to view Yarra Road Policies via the link below:

Semester 1 Student Reports and Parent Teacher Online Conferences

Semester 1 Student Reports will be available to parents / carers, via Compass, after school tomorrow, Friday 27 June. Look out for a Compass notification.

Throughout next week, the final week of Term 2, teachers are holding parent & teacher, or parent, student & teacher online conferences. Please ensure that you have booked a time with your child’s teacher. Bookings, via Compass, WILL CLOSE at the end of the school day, tomorrow, Friday 27 June, to allow time for teachers to set up individual Google Meets and to communicate these details.

Semester 1 2025 Student Reports and Victorian Curriculum Mathematics Version 2.0

The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) recently published its revised Mathematics curriculum (Mathematics 2.0), which we, at Yarra Road, have implemented this year. This has resulted in changes to student reporting for Mathematics in Victorian government schools from Semester 1 2025.

On our previous student reports, teachers reported against 3 strands of the achievement standard for Mathematics: Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability. Under Mathematics Version 2.0, teachers will report against the achievement standard as a whole, providing one, single, aggregated score for Mathematics.  The 3 strands have also been separated into 6: Number, Algebra, Measurement, Space, Statistics, and Probability.

As the achievement standards reported on have changed, this semester, under the Mathematics 2.0 curriculum, student reports will only show achievement and not progress. For all reports after this, progress will be shown against the single achievement standard.

The VCAA made these changes to help teachers plan their teaching and learning programs in Mathematics, giving them more flexibility to support students to link ideas within Mathematics and with other curriculum areas.
