Term 2 - Week 8

Senior School Athletics Carnival – Thursday 3rd July

We are looking forward to an exciting day of sport and school spirit as part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing our Physical Education and Sport Program.

On Thursday, 3rd July 2025, all students from the Senior School (Years 3–6) will take part in the Senior School Athletics Carnival. This event is not only a fun and active day for all involved, but also serves as a lead-up to the District Athletics Carnival taking place in Term 3.

Location:Bill Stewart Athletics Track, 330 Burwood Highway, East Burwood 3151

Throughout the day, students will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of track and field events, promoting teamwork, personal bests, and sportsmanship. Whether competing for house points or simply enjoying being active, every student is encouraged to get involved and do their best.

We encourage families to come along and cheer on our young athletes.

Our junior school students will participate in a Kelly Sports trail session on the day. See the next page for information on Kelly Sports who will be running after school programs for our Foundation to Grade 2 students in Term 3.

Pyjama Day – Friday 4th July

To celebrate the last day of term 2 the SRC's have organised a pyjama day! Students are invited to come to school in their pyjamas on Friday 4th July!

We are asking each student to bring a gold coin donation to help raise funds for the Cancer Council.

Students are reminded to still wear closed-toe shoes (like runners) so they can play safely during recess and lunch.

We’re looking forward to seeing everyone in their coziest clothes to finish the term in comfort, all while supporting a great cause!

There will be NO Pleasant Snacks on the last day of term.

School Swimming and Water Safety Program – Starting 22nd July

Consent and payment for our annual School Swimming and Water Safety Program is on Compass. This will commence on Monday, 22nd July 2025, and run for 9 days.

This program is an essential part of our Physical Education curriculum, aiming to build student confidence and competence in the water. It covers four key areas of aquatic education:

  • Underwater Skills
  • Entries & Exits
  • Stroke Development
  • Water Safety

On Day 1, all students will undergo a swimming assessment to determine their current ability level. Based on this, they will be placed in groups best suited to their needs.

On Day 2, students will begin lessons within their assigned groups. Instructors may make adjustments to groupings based on student progress and comfort levels. From Day 3 onward, students will continue structured lessons within their groups, working to develop their technique, endurance, and water safety awareness.

All students are expected to attend, as these lessons are an important part of our commitment to student safety and wellbeing. We are confident that each child will benefit greatly from the experience, whether they are new to swimming or looking to refine their skills.

Please consent and pay for swimming using google form listed on Compass Event as closing on Compass next Friday 4/7/25.

School Band at Assembly  – Monday, 30th June

We are excited to announce that the school band will be performing during the assembly on Monday, 30th June.

The band has been working hard to prepare a special selection of music, and we can’t wait for you to hear what they’ve put together. This performance is a great opportunity to celebrate the talent and dedication of our student musicians.

Make sure to arrive on time and show your support for the band. Let’s start the week on a high note!

Letters to Murphy

This week, our Foundation students wrote letters to our beloved school therapy dog, Murphy.

The students were excited to put their thoughts into words, sharing their love, stories, and even asking Murphy questions about his day. This exercise not only encouraged early literacy skills such as sentence formation and handwriting, but also nurtured empathy, emotional expression, and the special bond our young learners have formed with Murphy.

Murphy has been a calming and comforting presence in our school community, and it was wonderful to see the joy and creativity the students showed in their letters to him.

A note from Claudia

As we head into the final week of term, I want to take a moment to thank all of our students and teachers for a truly wonderful term. Your hard work, dedication, and positivity have made this a successful and rewarding time for our entire school community.

A special thank you to our teaching staff for their commitment to creating engaging learning experiences, and to our students for their enthusiasm and perseverance throughout the term. It's been a pleasure to see the growth and achievements in all areas of school life.

It's also been a busy and productive term for our School Council, the Parents and Friends Association, and the Pleasant Day Out committee. Each group has dedicated significant time and effort behind the scenes planning events, supporting initiatives, and helping strengthen our school community.

In terms of our building project, progress has been slower than anticipated, largely due to waiting our turn for line markings to be completed. We appreciate your patience as we continue to work toward improving our facilities, and we look forward to seeing the finished results in the near future.
