School Based Apprenticeship
Flynn O’Brien, a Year 11 student at Seymour College, has officially commenced a school-based apprenticeship in Sports Turf Management with industry-leading employer, Strathayr. This follows a period of work experience with the company, where Flynn demonstrated a keen interest in the trade and a willingness to learn. Flynn’s school-based apprenticeship allows him to continue his secondary education at Seymour College while working part-time with Strathayr. Through this arrangement, he will gain nationally recognised training in the horticulture industry, specialising in the maintenance and preparation of sports turf. This unique combination of classroom learning and practical experience sets a solid foundation for a future career in the sports turf or broader horticulture sector. Seymour College, together with Strathayr and Melbourne Polytechnic is proud to support Flynn’s transition from student to skilled tradesperson. It highlights the value of school-based apprenticeships in providing real-world career pathways for motivated young people.
