On Wednesday 26th July, Ms. Malakunas took the Year 11 History class to see ‘Oppenheimer’ at Melbourne Central. The whole class really enjoyed this movie, and it was particularly relevant as we are currently studying the Cold War and as a part of this unit, the threats posed by superpower rivalry during the age of the Atomic bomb. This movie showed us a different perspective as we have been studying the ramifications of the development of nuclear weapons but not the actual process and what Oppenheimer's life was like.

This movie was captivating and had us interested until the very end. We definitely enjoyed the experience and found it very beneficial to our studies. ‘Oppenheimer’ was an exciting excursion but more importantly it was a wonderful hybrid of an educational experience but an interesting movie that visually showcased the process of the nuclear bomb, the fear of communism that was engraved in the American heart and the emphasis placed on secrecy from the Soviet Union - all of which we are currently studying.

While the release date of this movie was entirely coincidental with our area of study, it certainly released at a good time. We all had a great day and appreciated Ms. Malakunas for taking us and the Humanities Department for making this learning experience a reality for us.
