Confirmation retreat day

Last Tuesday the year 6’s went to Edmund Rice Centre, to learn about the fruits and gifts of the holy spirit. The hosts welcomed us with songs  and we danced to the epic, hyped and positive music. We played a group game that involved everyone. We had a presentation by Lorjei Sia since he was an OLPS student and really wanted to talk to us about how he was working up to become a politician, which seemed to inspire some other students since Lorjei was only 18 (not too older than us). After he was done with his speech we had a Q&A with him on what it's like as a politician. Shortly after we did a quick prayer and headed to lunch for sausage sizzle, juice boxes, fruit , cookies and donuts as dessert. We played on the tire swings and ropes for a while until break was over. When break was over we went back into the centre. They introduced us to more epic songs and shortly after we had so much fun doing the moves and dances with them. Eventually when everyone was tired they handed the people doing their confirmation their letters from their parents and as a gift they gave us a scripture from the holy bible and a chocolate heart. We said our goodbyes and came back to school filled with the Holy Spirit.

Preparing for confirmation

Yesterday the Bishop came to visit the year 6 students. He spoke to us about how we can show the gifts of the Holy Spirit and be a good person. He asked us questions about our saints we had chosen and why we chose them. It was good to meet him before Sunday. Also, The yr 6’s that are making their confirmation, went over to the church to practice for their special day.  Our names were called out and we went to collect a sash and sat down at our spots. After everyone was called to their seats we started the mass and Sebastian, Orlando and Selena went up and did their readings. We had to sing songs and read a lot of readings and then Mr Wright and the 6’s doing confirmation went up to Ms Pozzebon and pretended that we were doing our real confirmation. After everyone was done, we put the sashes in our bag for confirmation day. We want to wish all the year 6 students making their confirmation this weekend good luck. We hope the Holy Spirit guides them and their sponsors on the day.

Regional soccer day

The boys regional soccer team arrived at Darebin International Sport Centre. We played our first soccer game after 5 minutes of arrival.  When the game started the other team scored 1 goal after 5 minutes, but then after a minute we came back and scored 1 goal in the first half. It was 1-1 so we needed to come back and score another one to get in the lead. The 2nd half we were competing well, then we scored our second goal after 7 minutes. Then we had to defend and not let the other team score. 8 minutes past and the ref blows the whistle. We won 2-1. The head coach came to our team and said our game is starting so we got up and went to the soccer pitch where we played our second game. The opposition scored in the first half. Then we came back with another goal, it was 1-1 like our last game but then they scored to make it 1-2.  Three minutes into the 2nd half the other team scored to make it 1-3. We tried our hardest to come back but they were too strong in attack and then at the last minute they scored to make it 1-4. We rested until the 3rd game came. We started off strong, we had a chance but didn't get to score. The other team scored a goal in the first half and the scores were 0-1 and our team needed to win this game to stay in regionals. The other team took many shots but our keeper was too strong. Sadly when our keeper went for a dive he injured his wrist and couldn't play for the 2nd half.  Then the 2nd half came and the other team started off strong. They scored another goal in the 2nd half and the scores were 0-2. We tried our best to score a goal but the other team was too good.  The ref blew the whistle and we were out of regionals. It was a great effort by the whole team against great opposition.

Craigieburn Library Class Visits

Students in Prep and Year 1 will be visiting the Hume Craigieburn Library next term. For your child to be able to borrow a book they must be a member of the library. If your child isn't a member already the weekend would be a great time for you to visit the library and become a member. To sign up, you need to visit the library in person and provide identification with your current address. If your child has a membership card but has not borrowed within the last 12 months, their library card will be expired. We look forward to the library visits next term and making use of this amazing community resource.
