Auslan

Grade 6 students were so excited to attend our first ever Auslan excursion!

On Thursday the 10th of August Grade 6

students traveled to St Kilda Road Melbourne.  We enjoyed lunch at the Tradeblock Café an authentic work environment and deaf space open to the public. Students were able to build their communication, life skills and understanding of Auslan in a real life experience.

We also had a tour of the Oldest Deaf School. We went into the basement and up the tour which was heaps of fun!

We met some students that attend the Victorian College for the Deaf and developed an awareness of deaf people and their culture. We loved playing soccer with these students and built relationships with them.

Physical Education

Footy, basketball, JRFH, something special

Students have been busy in August, working on their skipping skills and fitness for Jump Rope For Heart. They have also begun their basketball unit leading into the Grade 5/6 competition on September 1st.

JUMP ROPE FOR HEART

We've had nearly 100 students sign up and participate in JRFH this term, which is fantastic! Students have skipped for hours and hours at home and school. It's been great to see so many kids, from Prep to Grade 6, skipping at recess and lunch, and even before school. We have raised over $4000!!! Which, again, is a huge effort and a wonderful achievement!

I'm still working on our celebration to conclude our JRFH program, but I'm having difficulty persuading certain people... /principals...

Keep up the great work 😍

P-2 SWIMMING

Our Prep-Grade two students concluded their swimming program at Paul Sadler Swimland last week. It was great to see so many smiling swimmers, especially some slightly nervous individuals at the beginning of the week, who turned into absolute swimming machines by Friday. A big thanks to all the staff from Paul Sadler who helped with our kids for the week.

Upcoming PE dates:

  • Division Basketball - August 30 (Term 3)
  • Gym - Monday - Wednesday (Term 4, week 1-4)
  • Div Cricket Blast - October 20 (Term 4)

Music

PRODUCTION - Grades 4-6

Most classes have choreographed their moves for their dances and are focussing on their singing parts and facial expressions. Our focus for the rest of the term will to get these dances and songs as close to performance ready as possible, so we can tighten things up and make small tweaks early next term, before we we hit the stage.

They can rehearse ALL of the parts, songs and dances here:

Junior Students have been composing small pieces of music, focusing on various concepts, such as rhythm, harmony and tempo. This week, students created a composition that required them to perform a pattern of notes and then find suitable harmonies.

Visual Arts:

The midway point of term 3 is upon us. Students have spent a large portion of the term exploring a wide variety of techniques applicable to their current unit. From complementary to harmonious colours, pastel tones, brush control and painting techniques, collaborative artworks, installations, the elements of art and much much more. The art room is overflowing with vibrant examples of all the students wonderful works.

Thankyou to all of our students who opted to display their work instead of taking it home, it has continued to create talking points in the art room amongst all year levels.

Check out these current art room displays, can you pick the year levels who have completed these works?
