Week 9, Term 3
This term in Education in Faith we have been focusing on the Scripture from Luke - Jesus Cleanses Ten Lepers. We have been delving deeper into this text by using a learning technique called Bibliodrama. Previously students have participated in 'Hot Seat' activities, whereby students read a Scripture then instantly play the part of one of the characters from the text, and other students ask them questions and they answer in character. When using Bibliodrama you delve much deeper into the text and research the Worlds of the Text - 1. The World Behind the Text, 2. The World of the Text, 3. The World in Front of the Text. Please see the attached photo of the questions that the students have been responding to during this term. We will finish the term with a whole class performance, where every student is part of a character group from the text, and they ask and respond to questions about the text. This gives an overall deeper understanding of the teachings from the Scripture.
We've had a great term of Inquiry with lots of experimenting and engineering projects. Last week we got to test out our balloon powered cars with the other 3/4 class. It was great to see so many wonderful designs, the students really enjoyed this task.
In maths we've been learning about number patterns. Students have been engaged in activities that have challenged them to discern whether a pattern is evolving or recurring and to uncover the underlying rule, whether it involves addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division. This week, we ventured into this exploration using "number robots," and next week, we'll continue our journey by constructing growing patterns with sticks.
In our literacy sessions, we've been actively refining our skills in crafting compound and complex sentences, through the writing of portal stories. Students have dedicated time to planning and brainstorming to ensure a solid foundation before diving into the writing process. Alongside this, we've been learning about paragraph structure to help students organise their ideas cohesively, as well as revising and editing our work using the CUPS and ARMS strategy, resulting in more coherent writing pieces. Students have done a fantastic job on creating these writing pieces and we look forward to seeing the published versions.
