It has been a busy and exciting introduction to secondary school, starting way back on Thursday 29 January. There has been camp, laptop rollouts, CAT’s and NAPLAN. For the students, there has been a totally new environment to get used to, new timetables, new subjects and new friends and teachers to meet. Overall, 7G have met these challenges with enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.

In Term 1 in English, the students looked at literary devices such as metaphors, similes, foreshadowing, and sentence structures (such as predicate and subject), grammar and punctuation. The students each created a narrative of their own choice, using the 'Writing Cycle'.

We are now well into Term 2 and the students have settled in well. Congratulations to those students that are a part of the VHAP (Victorian High Abilities Program) in English and Mathematics. In English, the start of this term has seen the students do an Author Study unit on Margaret Wild and in Week 6 we will begin our Persuasive Writing unit. Some other areas the students have been focusing on are comprehension, sentence structure and grammar.

ART
7G are currently working on their clay ‘Pinch pot creatures’ in Art. Students are using the clay hand building skills of pinch pot, coil and the slab technique to create their creatures. They are using strong clay joins to add features such as eyes, wings, handles, teeth and feet.

Year 7G Science students have been exploring the fascinating world of ecosystems and the important role living organisms play within them. As part of their learning, students recently completed a squid dissection investigation, where they examined the structural
features and adaptations that help squid survive in marine ecosystems. This hands-on

activity allowed students to develop their scientific observation skills while deepening their understanding of food chains, adaptations, and how organisms interact within ecosystems. Well done to all students for their enthusiasm, curiosity, and respectful participation throughout the investigation.

HUMANITIES
This year 7G have developed their historical skills though a unit on Ancient Australia. In this unit we looked at the Out of Africa Theory and the early settlement of Australia. We will use these skills again later this term when we look at Ancient Egypt. We have also started using and developing our geography and mapping skills in a unit called Water in the World. We are currently completing an assessment for this unit where we build a series of bases and overlay maps and then answer questions about them. Later in the year we branch out to look at economics and business and civics and citizenship units.
