Welcome back to the Art Room everyone! We are super busy preparing lots of amazing art pieces for our Art Show in term 4! A big thank you to everyone we have donated boxes, bottles, newspaper etc. We are slowly working our way through these recycled goodies and turning them into masterpieces.
Grade Prep
The Grade Preps have had a busy start to the term. Last week we made a Grade P-2 collaborative art project where the Preps created some beautiful painted and collaged poppies for our ANZAC Day ceremony. This week I have given you a sneak peek of something we are working on for a very special day coming up soon. Mum’s the word!!!!

Grade 1/2
The Grade 1/2's did an amazing job on their ANZAC day torn paper art pieces. It made a very striking art piece for our ANZAC Day ceremony. This week we are working on another special art piece that is being created for Mat’s office. We have been looking at patterns using a variety of lines and colours. This piece will be ongoing until we have enough decorated paddle pop sticks to fill the display board. This will also be displayed at the Art Show for everyone to see the amazing details in this collaborative art project.

Grade 3/4
We are getting a jump start on an event coming up at the end of this term. The Lantern walk is a special tradition at our school, and the Grade 3/4's have been set the task to decorate the quadrangle for the fun night. Each student will be using permanent marker on tracing paper to create a ‘leadlight window’ effect. These will then be attached to some cardboard, and a handle will be added. On the night, we will pop in a battery-operated candle, and these will be hung up as decorations. These are just for display and if your child is coming on the night, they need to make their own lantern for their child to hold.

Grade 5/6
This week the 5/6’s have updated their Visual Art Digital Portfolios with their work from term 2 and will now move onto studying some Australian Artists. Each grade will cover a different artist which will give us plenty of variety to put on display at the Art show in term 4. The artists we will cover are Pete Cromer, Ken Done, Sidney Nolan, Albert Namatjira and Mirka Mora.

Art club
This week in Art Club, the fabulous grade 3/4 volunteers painted some super large letters of our Art Show theme ‘Australian Made’. These will be on display at the Art Show. This week we did the base coat and next week we will be adding some painted details.

Art club is available to different year levels each term. The schedule for 2026 will be as follows:
Term 2 | Term 3 | Term 4 |
Grade 3/4’s – Preparation for this year’s Art Show | Grade 1/2 - Preparation for this year’s Art Show | Grade Preps - Preparation for this year’s Art Show |
Art smocks
Just a reminder to bring in your Art smocks. Please hand them into your classroom teacher for storage. I recommend an old, oversized t-shirt or shirt with your child’s name on it.
We are looking for…..
To help with the creative process, we are asking for some materials that you may no longer need and would be happy to donate to the art room where we will turn them into magnificent art pieces. Some things we are looking for are wool, old house paint brushes, newspapers, shoe boxes (in good condition) and empty 1.5litre fizzy drink bottles (washed). So, if you are doing a clean out and have these items can you please drop them off at the Art Room. Thanks so much for your support!

Warm regards,
Marcia Evans
Students have made a strong start to Term 2, building on the foundations developed in Term 1. Across all year levels, there has been a clear focus on applying skills in game situations, with students developing greater control, confidence and decision-making in their movement.
What Students Are Learning

Students are continuing to develop safe movement patterns, focusing on balance, spatial awareness and controlled movement. Their confidence when working in shared spaces continues to grow.
Year 1

Year 2
Students are building on their striking skills, with a focus on timing, control and positioning in simple game situations.
Years 3/4
Students are developing their understanding of rule systems and basic strategies in striking and fielding games. There has been a strong focus on decision-making and working effectively as a team during play.
Years 5/6
Students are applying more advanced tactics in striking and fielding games, focusing on shot placement, teamwork and creating advantage in game situations.
Sport Update
Our District Cross Country event will take place next week. Students have been training consistently in preparation, with support from our French teacher, Madame Sara.
We wish all runners the very best as they represent Williamstown Primary School. Their effort and commitment in the lead-up has been excellent, and we look forward to seeing them compete with confidence.
Warm regards,
Paddy Gallivan
During Weeks 1 and 2, students have continued to build on their French learning.
Prep – Year 2Students have begun a unit introducing the French names of common fruits. They are learning simple phrases to express which fruits they like and dislike, as well as describing foods as healthy or delicious. Through a variety of songs, games, and interactive activities, students are building confidence in using key vocabulary and practising speaking in French.
Years 3 – 6Students have been focusing on building their sentence structure skills in French. They have been learning about conjunctions, as well as how to form both positive and negative statements. Students are applying this knowledge to create compound sentences, decode short texts, and construct their own meaningful sentences.
Warm regards,
Sara Borrens
