From the Principal

Over the Term 1 holiday break, I joined Mr Thiele, Ms Delacy and a group of students embarking on the 2026 Vietnam Study Tour, where we experienced a rich blend of cultural immersion, historical reflection and community engagement. Travelling via Singapore, the group arrived in Ho Chi Minh City before journeying to Vung Tau, where we spent several days exploring the local region and engaging in service activities.
A unique and valued aspect of this tour was the involvement of Vietnam Veteran, Ryk, who joined the group for the third time. Ryk, has built a strong connection with the College, and alongside his wife, Mr Thiele and Ms De Lacy have proudly supported various charities in Vietnam for over 21 years, adding significant depth and authenticity to the experience for our students.
A highlight of the tour included visits to significant historical sites such as Long Tan and Nui Dat, providing students with a powerful opportunity to deepen their understanding of Australia’s military history and its connection to Vietnam. Alongside this, students visited local orphanages in the Ba Ria region, where they contributed supplies and spent time with children, fostering a strong sense of empathy, service and global awareness.
The group also experienced the vibrancy of Vietnamese culture through activities such as a Mekong Delta tour in Ben Tre, where we explored rural life, travelled by boat through canals, and engaged with local communities. Time in Ho Chi Minh City allowed for further cultural experiences, including a traditional water puppet show and opportunities to explore the city.
I would like to thank Old Scholars Sam and Portia, who have both previously attended the tour as students, as well as Ms DeLacy and Mr Thiele for their leadership throughout the trip. A special mention also goes to our tour guide in Vung Tau, Australian veteran Mr Ryk Traeger and his wife, Mrs Karen Traeger, who provided valuable firsthand insights into the war.

As always, I am grateful to be leading this wonderful community and thank you for your continued support.
