Service Learning

Kambala is driven by a clear purpose: to educate young women of ambition, integrity and consequence. In the Junior School, this purpose is realised by supporting girls to develop a love of lifelong learning while also fostering an understanding of compassion, responsibility and service to others. Our core value of Humanity guides lessons about kindness, empathy and respect, and teaches our students that even small acts of service can positively impact the lives of others. In the Junior School, we see this lived out through small yet powerful moments each day: when our Year 6 girls lead the younger students in games on the playground, when our girls write gratitude cards for members of the Kambala community, and when students check on their friends and encourage them to bounce back during moments of challenge.  These seemingly simple interactions shape the kind and supportive culture of our Junior School.

Service learning opportunities provide our girls with authentic and meaningful ways to develop these qualities beyond the school gates. These specialised programs encourage our girls to look beyond themselves and engage thoughtfully with the wider community. This term, our Year 2 girls will have the opportunity to connect with elderly members in our local community. This experience provides opportunities for conversation, storytelling and companionship. By playing games together, finding common interests and learning across generations, students begin to understand the profound impact that human connection and small acts of kindness can have on others. Our girls are introduced to the wisdom, resilience and perspectives of older people, while fostering empathy, confidence and communication between generations.

The Year 4 classes will create care packs for children who endure long hospital stays. This experience encourages students to think deeply about the impact of small acts of kindness, and strengthens their understanding of compassion and community. Importantly, it empowers girls to see themselves as capable contributors to the world around them and reinforces the understanding that meaningful change often begins with thoughtful and intentional acts of care.

Research has consistently shown that children who participate in service learning programs have strengthened emotional wellbeing, collaborative skills and an increased awareness of social responsibility. It helps students move beyond thinking about themselves and encourages them to recognise the meaningful contribution they can make to the wider world. Through these experiences, students learn that citizenship is not grounded in status, but in contribution, compassion and care for others.

Whole School Survey

As part of our continuous improvement process, Kambala will be providing an opportunity for parents (Hampshire House to Year 12) and students (Year 5 - Year 12) to provide feedback relating to their views of the school across a number of areas.

Parents will be invited to complete questionnaires over a two-week period commencing next Thursday 21 May. Students will complete their questionnaires at Kambala during this period.

Next Thursday 21 May,  MMG Education will email you an invitation to participate and provide you with your confidential and secure access to your questionnaire.

At the conclusion of the research period, MMG will provide Principal Danvers with a report. There will be opportunities for members of the school community to receive feedback from the research.

In anticipation, we thank you for the valuable contribution you will be making by completing the questionnaire.

Please also note that Monday 8 June is the King's Birthday Public Holiday.

Tivoli Avenue Carline Guidelines

Tivoli Avenue Carline relies on everyone's cooperation to function efficiently.

After School Pick-up

Student departure times are staggered to maintain carline flow. Please arrive only at your allocated time to prevent stopping the flow in Tivoli Avenue.

  • Prep:  2:40 pm Tivoli Avenue
  • Kindergarten:  2:50 pm Tivoli Avenue
  • Year 1:  3:00 pm Tivoli Avenue
  • Year 2:  3:05 pm Tivoli Avenue
  • Years 3 and 4:  Dismissal at 3:10 pm for 3:15 pm carline pick-up
  • Years 5 and 6:  Dismissal at 3:20 pm for 3:25 pm carline pick-up

Important Reminders:

  • Drivers must remain in their vehicles at all times.
  • If you arrive too early and your student is not ready on Tivoli Avenue, you will need to circle as per signs on school walls.
  • Always enter carline from Bayview Hill Road. Do not drive against the traffic flow down Tivoli Avenue, as this stops the carline for those using it correctly.
  • Younger sisters (Prep – Year 2) should meet their older sisters (Year 3 – Year 6) in Watt or Massie and be picked up together at the older sister's allocated time (one pick-up time per family).
  • Do not double-park or block neighbours’ driveways.
  • Carline signs must be displayed for teachers on duty.
  • We encourage Years 5 and 6 students and parents to consider alternatives to Tivoli Avenue carline, such as using public transport or walking short distances.

Before School Drop-off

We ask students to be ready to quickly exit the car, wearing all uniform items (including hats) for the day.

  • Before school duties commence at 7:50 am. Years 1 to 6 students are permitted for drop-off in Tivoli Avenue from 7:50 am each morning. The first fifteen minutes of carline offer the best flow.
  • We encourage student organisation and independence. We expect Year 1 to Year 6 students to be able to close their own car doors.
  • Again, please do not drive down Tivoli Avenue against the traffic flow. Enter the carline from Bayview Hill Road. Driving down Tivoli Avenue halts the carline and creates congestion.

Kindergarten and Prep Drop-off

  • Kindergarten and Prep Carline operates from 8:25 am to 8:45 am in Tivoli Avenue
  • Kindergarten and Prep students who are younger sisters can be dropped off from 8:10am but must be escorted by their older sisters to the entry of Massie House at the conclusion of before school duty (8:20 am).

Hampshire House

Junior School parents with Hampshire House Siblings should kindly enter the Hampshire Carpark by driving down Bayview Hill Road during peak carline times.

Alternative Travel

  • We kindly suggest Years 5 and 6 students and parents consider opting out of the Tivoli Avenue carline before school and think about using public transport or walking short distances to school.
